The draws are obviously random. In over 30 years of racing I have only had one dog that has drawn all eight boxes at its first eight starts. And others that have never drawn a particular box (eg box 2) in a 50 start career.
The fast track model is superior to the ozchase model because it lets everyone know the results much quicker. It even notifies trainers if their dog ISN'T drawn.
And GRV offered this software to GRNSW for nothing before ozchase was developed.

Trevor,

Correct. Actually, GRV also tried to get others interested back in 1994 (via Adam Wallish, who was then 2IC to Ken Carr).

At that stage, state A, on observing an interstate dog in the field, had then to send a message to state B asking for updated form. Sometimes it got an answer, sometimes not. Sometimes it forgot to ask. It also meant that on occasions interstate dogs were wrongly graded.

In NSW, the GRA rejected any thought of change for "legal" reasons - ie that it might let loose confidential data of trainers. A cop out!

The same GRA would not make other changes because it had fitted out clubs with ancient Commodores with no hard disks. Everything had to fit on 360kb floppies - remember floppies? Those were the days. Unfortunately, some of that thinking persists today.
