Industry Rallies For Bayley’s Future...

THE greyhound industry is rallying behind Tony and Robyn Atkins and their niece Kara who tragically lost three of her four children in a house fire at their Singleton home last week.

In news that has left devastation throughout not only the local community but also the wider greyhound industry, 31-year-old Kara Atkins heartbreakingly lost twins Matylda and Scarlett and their older brother Blake in the fire, as neighbours and emergency crews tried valiantly to save them from the raging inferno.

Miraculously, Kara and eight-year-old Bayley were rescued from the fire by neighbours, with the mother and daughter, along with father Chris, left to put back the pieces following this horrific, unimaginable ordeal.

Enter the greyhound industry.

As is the case whenever one of its own is in a time of need, a number of greyhound participants are getting behind the Atkins family in terms of fundraising efforts, including Ashley Thomas who has been working tirelessly towards auctioning off a superbly bred seven month old Aston Dee Bee (ex Thinkalot) pup.

Ive donated the pup and we are auctioning him at Wentworth Park on Saturday week (July 13), said Thomas.

The proceeds will be put away to go towards young Bayleys future Ive got no doubt the industry will get behind this so we can raise as much as possible.

All costs are included as well. Break-in, education, rearing, transport, food, veterinary, you name it people from within the industry have put their hand up and said theyll help which is exactly what youd expect. All the successful bidder will need to do is pick a trainer.

I cant even begin to imagine what the Atkins family is going through and if this in any small way helps in getting their lives back on track itll be more than worth it. Our thoughts are especially with eight-year-old Bayley, its heartbreaking.

With the auction to take place at Wentworth Park on Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Classic night (July 13), options to bid for the pup off-course will be available also, with further details to be made available in the coming days.

Its all come together very quickly and Id like to thank everyone thats chipped in and played a part so far, added Thomas.

Also, if people want to bid online or over the phone they can do so by registering with Wayne Billett (GRNSW) or Ellen Harris (GBOTA) in the lead up to the night. I urge anyone that can pledge help or support to please do so I couldnt think of a better cause than helping this young girl in the future.

Just an Idea ...

Would it be possible to be able to get one or two pups in Each State of Australia for this fundraiser..

I think we could have an Australia wide Fundraiser ...

Thoughts and ideas welcome ....
