Hi all

Friend is Looking to adopt a young bitch. Want a smaller dog, under 25kgs and one that hasnt raced.

Anyone got something that might fit the bill let me know. Must be in Victoria as people want to meet potential new pet first.

Might be unbraced due to injury in reading or complete non chaser. But size is key part of brief.

Yes I know they can go to gap but the people asked me to find them one.

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Jeanette

Yes we did. A beautiful 9 month old fawn bitch who was injured in rearing has a new home.

New owners so happy and I am sure the little girl will be too.

thanks to those who responded privately.

Best

Andrew

Great stuff Andrew its always good to hear about these kinds of things..
I do think there is a huge need for Injured pups Timid pups Non chasing pups pups that will never make it to the track to all be able to go to one farm for fostering or adoption ....or Hound to heroes or service dogs for all types of Mental health conditions

This could be also controlled by us the members .....It would not cost much to set up something along these lines ...I do love the Hounds for Heroes groups and the ability to be able to get Greyhound pups young enough to be retrained in this way would be far easier that with a older ex race dog .....
I would love to set a farm up like this myself ...

Kevin

I think that would be a great asset to the sport as there are always a percentage of pups born that you know won't make the track, whether they are hyperactive, timid, small, born with a small defect, injured while rearing etc etc

Having a foster home for these types of pups is something that all State Associations should look into

Once assimilated to a home-style life these pups are usually easy to place as most people like to get younger dogs

Sandro ..
I think its a great idea like you and i may try to do this myself ....
I think we should be using every resource to ensure we have a long of vibrant breeding industry...
I guess the first step is finding a farm so that you could set it up so that people could come out and interact with the dogs as much as possible and let the dog pick its new home and person to love ..

I think the Greyhound could be used all over Australia as a aid for all types of health and mental health area's ...I am surprised no one has even bothered to try and set this kind of thing up in the past ......I am always open for idea's Sandro so maybe it's something we can do from each state

I think there could be some kind of funding to help assist but i really would like to think this can be achieved in a very short time ...
Even a place for timid pups so that they can have months of training to suit whats needed

One thing i do know is that all GAPS all over Australia are failing dogs for very minor infractions and i also believe these dogs that fail should be trained out side of the norm and many of these dogs would make great Companion and Medical assistance dogs ....Greyhounds have one of the best natures in the dog world and we should look at the way the USA does this because one group Hound for Heroes has placed over 8000 greyhounds into homes thats incredible

Well that's great news. But I won't skip an opportunity to find this sub 25kg girl a home. So she's here just in case anyone wants a beautiful small girl as a forever friend...yeah she raced 18 times but she's heaps friendly and sane. Booked into GAP already but I will exhaust all avenues to find her the right match.

Kev

What you need is to formulate a business plan and try and get GRV to co-fund you in this endeavour i.e. they pay a share of the initial infrastructure cost and then subsidise the weekly costs where they and the owner pays a share of those costs until the greyhound puppy is able to be placed

With sub-12 month pups this process would not be a long one, so turnover would be good and it would be a real great advertisement for the welfare aspect of our sport

Sandro i think to get a charity set up the costs are about 50k ...
I think you are right we could get some funding and plus some other forms of outside funding from businesses....and some Government support the RSL maybe ...
I do think there is huge need for PTSD Mental Health greyhounds..

I think the ideal business model would be exactly how they do it in the USA ....Sandro ..

I don't think this kind of idea would work with the GRV the present admin and CEO has his agenda set in stone and the GRV brains trust did not think up this kind of idea and concept so they will try hard to knock it on the head IMO ..

No harm in trying any kind of ideas like this one its has merit at least Sandro ...

what % of pups born in Aust would you think are deemed unsuitable for racing between the ages 0 to 14 months ...

If there is Any one willing to help write a submission for the GRV and GA please feel free to let me know if this is going to get any traction it's something you cannot do alone and it needs some one smarter than me Sandro to get the paper work sorted ..
Maybe someone who has a bit more diplomatic skills than myself ..lol
