Don't worry Keirin, even farmers in Australia who vote conservative realise climate change is real. There are a handful in Australia who would argue the alternative on just about everything. Surprisingly, they even follow greyhounds.

Here is a problem with what you have posted Raymond.

You say that 'farmers who vote conservative realise that climate change is real'
Where did you get this statistic from Raymond?
Because we had an election recently. The Labor/Greens went in to bat heavily armed with everything climate change. Yet who won the election??? Conservatives right???
I do not know your farming heritage Raymond but as for me, both of my Grandparents come from farming. My wife and I also have within the last 12 months sold our farm and moved to greener pastures.

Kieran, unlike you I do not close my brain and believe everything that the Bureau of Meteorology say.
Recently the Australian Government, acting upon information by the Bureau of Meteorology, declared the Moyne Shire an area affected by severe drought. The Gov. wanted to send $1,000,000 to assist. The local Mayor rang the Gov. and said 'mate, there is water everywhere down here. Look out the window bro. Send the money up North where it is needed'

And maybe one of you can point out where I said climate change is not real? Of course it is real, it has always been real. The climate was changing long before we came along.

You need to get your heads out of predictions. The truth is, nobody knows what tomorrow will bring.

And if any of you are actually serious about saving the planet, which none of you actually have any power to do, then perhaps you should get a group of likeminded people together, and go to China and India for a few years on an 'anti climate change' demonstration. Australia has the cleanest air on the planet, and anyone who knows anything about this country will know it is a land of sweeping plains, of rugged mountain ranges, of dust and flooding rains. Yes, it is a sunburt country.

For your information Kieran, Australia has been a lot hotter than 41 degrees mate so I dont know where you are getting your news from. ABC perhaps?

Hi Kevin,

Interesting quote from H. L. Mencken but not sure how it supplements your argument.

I had never heard of him before but Wikipedia states that Mencken opposed the American entry into both World War I and World War II. His diary indicates that he was a racist and antisemite, who privately used coarse language and slurs to describe various ethnic and racial groups

Climate change will be gradual and in the short term we will see isolated events that can be passed off as an act of god or the green parties fault in your case.

But fast forward 50 years (which wont affect me) and you might find that rich people from countries from harsh places like Jamie stated earlier might be migrating in their droves to places like Ireland with cooler climates.

So for your grandchildrens sake it might be worth looking at that graph from the Australian Governments Bureau of Meteorology again and seeing what you can do to reduce climate change - just in case!!!

Jamie - the important word was average - that means it takes the lows in places like Melbourne with the highs like NT.

For the whole of Oz it stated that 41 was the record.

I do not dispute our World is changing Kieran but records only started a couple of hundred years ago ..

Now lets talk millions of years ago ..
.

The end of the Cretaceous Period saw one of the most dramatic mass extinctions Earth has ever seen. Find out what brought about the end of the dinosaurs and many other animals too.
The fossil record shows that for the first 175 million years of their existence, dinosaurs took on a huge variety of forms as the environment changed and new species evolved that were suited to these new conditions. Dinosaurs that failed to adapt went extinct.

But then 66 million years ago, over a relatively short time, dinosaurs disappeared completely (except for birds). Many other animals also died out, including pterosaurs, large marine reptiles, and ammonites.

Although the number of dinosaur species was already declining, this suggests a sudden catastrophic event sealed their fate - something that caused unfavourable changes to the environment to occur more quickly than dinosaurs and other creatures could adapt.
The exact nature of this catastrophic event is still open to scientific debate. Evidence suggests an asteroid impact was the main culprit. Volcanic eruptions that caused large-scale climate change may also have been involved, together with more gradual changes to Earth's climate that happened over millions of years.

Whatever the causes, the huge extinction that ended the age of the dinosaur left gaps in ecosystems around the world. These were subsequently filled by the only dinosaurs to survive - birds - and mammals, both of which went on to evolve rapidly.

Hi Kevin,

That is true but because there is no written record there is a lot of speculation. What we do know is that there was a dramatic event that caused a huge change.

I am not suggesting that the climate change we are talking about will cause that type of change. But it will cause a gradual change.

For a person living in Australia you either believe you weather forecasters or you dont. If you do then Oz is getting hotter and that action will cause a reaction. That reaction will be nasty but it probably wont happen to you but it might happen to your grand kids.

The problem I have is that you have old men in the fossil fuel business and politicians promoting websites like EXTERNAL LINK to convenience people that there is no need for change.

Read the link to the report from Graham Readfearn EXTERNAL LINK

I dont know him from Adam and maybe he is full of shi$e. But ask yourself what does he get out of it if he is telling lies.

On 18 June anti-wind protesters will gather outside Parliament in Canberra for the "Wind Power Fraud Rally" an event being organised though a website called Stop These Things.

When he asked Angus Taylor, Senator John Madigan, Senator Nick Xenophon Peter Quinn, Alan Moran and Alan Jones who was supporting this protest, none of them would say. Why not reveal your backers?

So ask yourself who benefits the most a snowflake journalist like Graham Readfearn or the fossil fuel industry. Who is paying for all the mouth pieces listed above?

Then, there's King Island, off the north west tip of Tasmania population 1600. This week, Hydro Tasmania will ask residents there to vote in connection with a plan for a 200-turbine wind farm on their island. Sarah Laurie, CEO of the Waubra Foundation, was flown in to the island to speak to residents by the No TasWind Farm Group, which has also engaged Sydney-based PR company Wells Haslem. In a detailed investigation by ABC Radio National's Background Briefing program, Laurie tells the people of King Island that wind farms cause some people to wake in a panic and to suffer a bizarre perception of body vibration ".

Where does the raw material come from to make Wind Turbines ..Kieran .
What mined materials go into making wind Turbines that last from 5 to 10 years before they need replacing ..

In the past 5 years how many volcanic eruptions have taken place on this Earth .

How much radiation has been released into the atmosphere over the past 60 years or so .

Your point is taken but to say that Global Warming made these fires happen is a ridiculous statement ..

Australia always has burned but the problem this time is many of the people who lost houses and farms are saying they would be fined if they do any burn offs before summer and this is why your argument will never stack up Kieran .....

Hi Kieran.

There's no argument that "Wind, Solar and Batteries" are the way of the future........but until THAT happens, POWER needs to become affordable. That's it in a nutshell.

So in the meantime we need to burn coal if we want to continue the life style we now support, because without electricity we can't advance forward or produce solar-panels, wind-farms that you talk about.

If your talking reducing Co2 levels....well the only AFFORDABLE alternate today is NEUCLEAR ENERGY. It's safe. It's reliable & it's cheap. That's the direction we need to go...that's if you beleive in climate change.

On that note, my eyes are WIDE OPEN and I've listened to both sides of the story. I hear it everyday.

The "Ozone Layer" campaign first surfaced in the mid 80s. It was then re-labled to "Global Warming" in the late 1990/2000 and again changed to "Climate Change" as we know it now in the last decade. Why? To help re-hatch the inaccuracies as the scaremongering that was predicted over that period was proven to be false, time after time.

To sum it up, climate is like a wheel. It keeps going around & around, that's why we have floods & droughts. It's been around since Noah built the ark.

When I was a wee boy Kev, my old man and his mates would go out at night with a few stubbies, and do this thing called 'burning off'
I'm sure you know what it is, but for the sake of others, 'burning off' is where you go and burn off all the grass under the trees, that had grown and died, thus presenting a fire hazard.
Aboriginals have been doing this for millennia....
But when the greenies in the city decided they don't like the smoke, burning off was stopped.
Now we have fire hazards everywhere!
It's only a matter of time before bushfires burn out of control because there is fuel everywhere.

But the stupid greenies now try to blame climate change for the fires.
It is bloody insulting!

Even more so, when we know some of the fires were deliberately lit.

In the 1970 the first ever 'world earth day' was held.
Some of the worlds leading climatologists were there.
Predictions were made of massive temperature drops, that's right - drops, of up to eleven degrees by the year 2000.
Other predictions were that the entire population would be wearing oxygen masks due to air pollution and that climate related deaths would be in the millions across the world.

Please excuse me if actually think for myself, rather than blindly follow science.

Probably not a good subject to talk Tornados...apologies, especially to those who have lost in this tragedy.

We can debate till the cows come home about the cause.

What isn't debatable is the sick mongrels who start fires deliberately, and more recently the mongrels who are trying to scam fire victims.

Both should get 20 years minimum.

Kieran
This is the best source of info you can find ..

Aboriginal Cultural Burning
How did Tasmanian Aboriginal people use fire?
Tasmanian Aboriginal people used fire as a tool for several purposes. Like today, fire was used as a heat source for cooking and keeping warm but fire also played an important role in:
travel
hunting
communication
burial practices, and
land management

EXTERNAL LINK

PS
Mick those people who deliberately lit these fires regardless of age should be locked up and made to serve the community that they helped destroy with unpaid work ..

Jamie those people predicting lower temps were talking about Tassie 2019 Ive never known it to be so cold at this time of year all gardens are way behind this season and if climate change makes it warmer come on climate change. As for people like the greens blaming it on climate bullshit Cassie and her mob should be locked up for using peoples loss and grief to push their own agenda.

Just so you know Kieran - some of us on GD from Australia actually understand that climate change is happening and we are headed for serious trouble - but we have more important things to do than argue with those who think they know more than the climate scientists. If they won't listen to the science there is no point arguing with them - they just get more irrational and more abusive.

Carole has written what I came here for today: Showing empathy for those fighting the tragic situation of nature out of control in Australia these days.
Devastating for wildlife - and I'd like to add: Devastating for life in general.
May the new year bring the desperately needed rain to stop the fires Down Under and a fruitful season after all the tragic. Feelings and best wishes to all affected.

Keep safe please.
