With a dogs race record for uk races are going allowances not applied to race times?

if the website is a record of results surely the calculated time should be what the rating and result is given on

cheers

Phil, This has been raised before but I think the long and short of it is that GD gets the results from the GBGB site and they have not had the correct going allowances applied to the races since the new website introduced. A complete farce imo as the resulting ratings on GD is now fairly meaningless. Maybe if enough people complained to the GBGB they would get the issue sorted. As far as I am aware the only way to search for the correct time of a dog with the going allowance applied is the Racing Post website.

the 3 sites that post accurate calculated results are
Racingpost.com
Greyhound-results.com
Greyhoundstats.co.uk...i use this now especially for ratings when researching for buying..breeding bitches and stud dogs stats as they based on the track calculated times...thus I agree with Chris "

As has been pointed out before GD receives no funding it is reliant on volunteers to add data .

The problem is the racing industry are paying out money to betting sites to log and store our Greyhound Data and its not public domain .

If each Country's racing bodies payed Greyhound Data the same funding it pays the betting sites then all the Data on GD would be up to date and it would be free forever and protected for ever ...

GD sources it's UK data from GBGB and from 21st May last year (new GBGB site) the going allowances were not applied automatically on their database, only for the final race.

The greyhound-results.com site (which is great) has the same inherent problem in not showing calculated times for UK races - only for trials and the last race on the card in most instances.

I am part of the team which updates the going allowances manually but this is a time consuming task going through each race, in excess of two hours for weekend meetings for example.

Hopefully new software will be on board soon which will allow us to apply going allowances in seconds rather than the current setup.

Pretty much impossible to do manually, hope you find the solution very soon.

Could someone from the team add -30 going to the Springbok final. I've been doing the allowances for my dogs for months but can no longer do it. Hope it all gets sorted soon cross referencing from Gbgb site etc...

I am not familiar with the fine detail of "going" adjustments in the UK. They appear to be guesses, more or less.

What I can say is the that two basic needs are (1) a reliable form database and (2) a utility which compares current runs with past performances. One has to be programmed into the other with instructions.

Necessarily, the database has to include a pre-determined comparison of times over one track/distance with another. Then you reduce things to apples v apples. (Obviously, this is an asset for lots of other even more important reasons).

Ideally, ignore any mix-up or slow races initially and insert them only after determining the desired "going".

Been doing it for years in Oz. It works well. But it can never be precision engineering and must still be an educated estimate.

That is how it was Bruce, we are talking about a technical glitch that is now not automatically adding or subtracting the given going allowances.

Has there even been a meeting in Australia with it being 200 slow?

thats an annual thing for us lol ;)

Richard,

I hasten to add that my system is a private one - nothing to do with official times which are never adjusted for any reason. The best we can hope for is the brief mention of Good/Slow in a steward's report (not very helpful).

There have been attempts to use penetrometers but they came to nothing and I guess they are not appropriate to loam surfaces anyway. However, I have always thought that wind readings and wind socks would be useful as general information.

I have my own software, so do my own going allowances, track bias, season dates everything.

This thread is about greyhound-data updating and using the public given going allowances to make their ratings toward accurate for the masses.
