Received this in a text yesterday anybody know whats going on? Is it real..

Unfortunately the present Covid 19 pandemic has created new trading issues for the greyhound industry.
Racing behind closed doors albeit better than no racing impacts dramatically on our gate receipts, tote revenue, restaurants and bar revenues, sponsorship to name only a few.
With this in mind I have been asked to ascertain from the greyhound community their view on either

1 . Reduce Prizemoney to compensate in some small way to the the shortfall in revenue or

2. Increase race entry fee

I would like to know what our members think regards Damian

Of course there is a 3rd option :

Reduce the unsustainably high administration cost of the IGB .

I haven't had a chance to discuss this issue with my Committee.
However my personal opinion is there should be no reduction in prize money or no increase in entry fees.
In Octobers budget we received 16.8 million from the Horse & Greyhound fund. Very little of this money could possibly have spent on racing as the Corona virus closed all tracks in March.
I can assure you the monies spent to date has gone on Wages and Expenses to IGB staff. If i'm correct no staff were laid off by the IGB. Obviously staff would have been entitled to the 350.00 Per Week while out of work. This should be clarified before it becomes gospel. However it is difficult to receive information from the KGB in Limerick.
The IGB Board members would have to have approved this measure to decrease prize money or increase entry fees.
The question must be asked are the Board members still receiving their salary and are they still claiming outlandish expenses?
If they are still accepting a salary and or claiming expenses then this is where we must start to clean up the image of the Greyhound world. It is totally unacceptable that the greed mongers continue to feed off the hard working man and woman owning and training greyhounds.
Later today I will speak with members of the DGOBA Committee.
However I believe they will be of the same opinion, NO CUTS IN PRIZE MONEY AND NO INCREASE IN ENTRY FEES.
In Gods name can anybody tell me what sort of Gombeen men are running our industry. Horse racing recommenced at Naas on Monday, followed by Leopardstown followed by Navan yesterday. Yesterdays Navan meeting had 8 races with a total of 104 horses running. That is 104 rides for jockeys. 104 times handlers walked horses. 104 times trainers legged up jockeys.104 times stall staff loaded horses. 104 times the Clerk of the Scales weighted out jockeys. 104 times the valets assisted jockeys in the jockeys room. All happening behind closed doors.
Now compare that with 12 races at a greyhound stadium. 6 dogs per race a total of 72 dogs. 72 handlers, walking and loading the dogs. 1 man weighing in 72 dogs. 1 starter starting 72 dogs. 1 Vet checking 72 dogs.
Why is the greyhound trainer without races for his dogs. Our competitors are back in business, how come?
Answer: The Chairman of Horse Racing Ireland Mr. Joe Keeling is a personal friend of Mr. Simon Coveney. Mr. Coveney is a very senior Minister in the caretaker Government. He sits at the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party meetings with the Minister for Horses and Dogs, Mr. Creed. Not to mention the fact they are both from Cork. Obviously Mr. Keeling has a lot more pull in Government circles than our beloved Chairman.
We should be racing albeit behind closed gates. However as usual the Greyhound Owner/Trainer is treated as the underdog.
Why aren't we racing? Can any of our Cork owners or trainers ask the Minister. Please hurry up as he mightn't be a Minister for very long. The leader of Fianna Fail being a Cork man he may wish to get rid of him when he takes over in a week or so.
I will update you after I speak with my Committee Members.
Please note:
The above comments are my personal views and may not represent the views of my fellow DGOBA committee members.

Has world war 3 just commenced?
I have spent the day answering Phone Calls, Text Messages and E-mails. From all parts of the country. I am being called upon to know what are the DGOBA going to do about the latest Bombshell from the IGB.
Well folks we are only one body representing Dublin and surrounding counties. We do have a few members outside the pail. The time has come for all GOBAS to stand up and be counted. The current plans put forward by the Board of the IGB after yesterdays Board meeting, will have a devastating affect on every Greyhound Owner and Trainer in Ireland. At a time of financial crises they want YOU to pay a 50% increase to enter your dog in a race. At the same time they want YOU, due to the financial crises to accept less Prize Money. WIN WIN WIN ALL ROUND FOR THE IGB.
Obviously the heads who control the Industry and who didn't know a greyhound from a poodle until they were awarded a post on the IGB board for their services as lackey's to a government a Minister, have no idea of what the Greyhound man and woman go through to provide the entertainment at a stadium. Early mornings, late nights caring for their dogs. Meanwhile the Heads sit back enjoy a Salary, Expenses and Free Meals at all Stadia they visit.
I would like to know who attended yesterdays Board meeting? Where was the meeting held?
The names of All those who voted to persecute the Greyhound man and woman.
Was there a proposal on the agenda for the Board Members to forego their Salaries and Expenses for the next year to assist the Greyhound man and woman in these very difficult times.
There was in my arse!
It is rather difficult to plead Poverty to the poor when they see those at the top of their sport living a Champagne Lifestyle at their expense.
It is also very difficult not to personalize my comments as its just a few people who control this industry. However the time has come for unity in the Sport. Let us be fair with one another. I am now calling on the IGB Board to produce each members up to date expenses since they were appointed to the board. Let the Greyhound Fraternity see how you have been managing the business on their behalf. Failure to do this will leave me with no alternative but to put in place a Petition calling for ALL Greyhound Owners and Breeders to sign, requesting the Minister for Agriculture to remove the entire Board due to lack of confidence in the members. This petition will of course be going to either the current or new Minister, who ever holds the office at the said time.
The view from every person who contacted me today was, To many people in Limerick getting too much money. That includes
the Directors.
Many of the parties called on me to request the DGOBA to call a meeting and hold a vote on an ALL out strike. We do not relish the idea of being leaders. We in the Capital are very weary about leading the way. We recall the proposal to close Harold's Cross and the other Stadia. We had great support from many of the GOBAS through out the country (Not them All). However when Phil and Bully Brady got the idea to suck in the country man by promising not to close their Stadia our support weaned.
At that time I tried to explain this was a stroke by the IGB and the other Stadia on the list would close once they got Harold's Cross out of the way. Now the hen has come home to roost.
Not alone is that the case but the IGB paid the same company who wrote the first report to write the second report. That report basically contained the same issues. Close the stadia as listed in the first report. Wow that was expensive work writing the report they probably knew off by heart.
The census of opinion is, if there is to be any action taken in relation to today's report it should be set in motion by the country GOBAS. They have the clout, assuming they get support from their members. I have no doubt our member will be to the forefront in supporting the cause.

The Problem is simple, imagine a triangle with:

IGB Admin on top using 87.5% of the funds, followed by:
Owners, Trainers, Breeders
Welfare

The solution is also simple, turn the triangle upside down and share the distribution of funds where it's needed. That of course is Owners, Trainer, Breeders and Welfare.

The problem is the people running the sport will never agree to this and as they are running the sport and would need to make dramatic changes, I personally cannot see anything changing in the near future.

My apologies for giving such a simplistic view but I am sure you understand what I am trying to say. I really feel for you guys as I know you are all doing your best to get the sport to the level it should be. I wish you all the luck in the world and GD will support you in anyway we possibly can.

What are the Federations thoughts on this new proposal.
Were you envolved in the decision making? Did yous know it was coming down the track and if so can you let us know what other bright ideas are in store for us.

Is anyone going to respond to Edmund?
Personally I think I already know the answer, If in keeping with IGB policy the Federation will have received no notification of any changes.
The IGB are not into discussions on any subject where Money, Rules or Regulations are concerned is concerned. They IGB are not Negotiators, they are Dictators. No consideration is given to the divide in Greyhound Racing in Ireland. The small Man and Woman mainly train their own dogs. Normally carrying on a family tradition and the love of their dogs and the sport. The Large Public Trainers mainly train on behalf of Business or Professional clients who have an interest in the sport but have neither the time or expertise to train their own dogs.
If situations change within the industry ie: Increase in Food, Veterinary, Transport and Entry Fees the public trainer can increase the cost on his owner. Mind you owners will only tolerate a certain amount before they decide to move on to a less expensive hobby.
The small owner/trainer have no one to call on, they must foot the bill themselves or depart from the sport altogether.
It has to be expected the small owner / trainer normally has an income from another source. The public trainer is working full time training dogs for a living and in a lot of cases is giving employment in his area. Either way they are all Greyhound people who make a considerable contribution to the Sport and the State.
The time has come for a realization that those appointed to the board of the IGB should have a Knowledge of the Industry/Sport and an Interest in the game. Currently there is a great shortage of this combination on the Board. In the interest of the Greyhound Industry several members of the current Board should consider their positions and tender their resignations to the current or incoming Minister for Agriculture.
Think of the good of the Industry and not their Salaries or Expenses.
Furthermore questions must be answered by the Board as to the whereabouts of 3/4 of the annual budget of 16.8 million. This money was spent in the first three months of 2020. A total of 1.3 million will be the cost of the 2.00 per day paid for all racing dogs. That leaves a large amount to be accounted for.
Were All staff in Limerick on Full Salaries? Were the Board members drawing Salaries and Expenses? If memory serves me correctly we have had no racing since early to mid march.
Until someone is accountable and questions are answered this Industry is going nowhere in a hurry.

The silence is deafening on this subject. Edmund Carroll, Vice Chairman of the DGOBA asked a question,"What, if any knowledge did the Federation have of these proposals". Simple question. With no Response. Why no response? Is there something to hide?
As late as 20.32 I have a question in from a a country dog man on my text asking me if I have any further update. The power is with the Country man, the Federation have a lot more Country members than the DGOBA.
I received an email earlier to day to know if I had heard Joe Duffy today. I haven't, however I will check it out on RTE player when I get home.
Come on lads lets hear from you. What is the True story.

As there is no response from Owners, Trainers or Federation I assume everyone is happy with the new charges as set out by the IGB. Therefore neither myself or the DGOBA will have any further comment to make on the subject.
