Sandown today after race 4 cancelled all racing for the afternoon

The problem has been safety and stability problems since the new sand and deep harrow took place over 2 weeks ago..

The track feels like Quicksand at present its very floaty underfoot ..
The stewards after race 4 were over at the second turn between the 700 meter boxes \that has caused the greatest concern

Great call by the Steward in Charge and i know some will be a bit pissed off but for the betterment of our Dogs it was a brilliant call by the young female Steward incharge ..

PS
Sandowns 10 Buck Parma chips and salad and drink was 9 out of 10 for value and great friendly service ...

Its good to see the staff employed by the Club doing a fantastic job

Peter
The Staff need a job so i dont see nothing wrong with talking about the fantastic food on offer for trainers in this Dire times of doom and gloom ..

The track as you know Peter is shifting and it feels like its holding water underneath the new top dressing or the fine particles have not been mixed with the other heavier particles .

As you know the fines travel down to the inner rail at sandown making the inside running very slow for all early racing its been a problem for years but in all fairness i feel the track staff have done what they could its a bit like turning shit into clay they are not magicians .

IMO i believe the track needs a deeper harrowing again so that the fines and heavys can mix evenly .
If this dont work then replace the sand ...ASAP
I think a few loads of sand must of been finer washed sand or those fines are holding some very fine pipe clay this will hold back drainage .
IMO Sand that is washed in very heavy dirty water will also leave
behind residue that contaminates the end product i think this has happened with Sandowns sand its nothing like i have every seen

PS
The track staff at sandown do a good job and the blame cannot be pointed at workers the sand is 100% the problem

Thanks Kevin for your forensic report on the sand is it the same sand as is on other Vic tracks? Top dressing in winter ? Have you heard of sand lamination? I'm still learning and your expertise will help me

Peter thanks for being a smart assi love your work ..
30 plus years of being a drainer pipe layer sewer water mains works .Road construction Heavy Machine operator .
Makes me a smart ass then so be it .
Your opinion means jack shit to me but feel free to continue on Bagging the Track staff at Sandown .

The sand is the problem not the track staff .

Peter i think you better look up Sand Lamination

lamination is a small-scale sequence of fine layers Lamination develops in fine grained sediment when fine grained particles settle, which can only happen in quiet water

EXACTLY what i said you stupid tosser go have another beer mate

To attack the staff for the sand on the track at present is stupid and dumb its unproductive to attack the Staff it achieves nothing..

Why comment at all if you have nothing constructive to add other than bagging out the Track staff ..
maybe your trial track expertise can help the track staff better understand what they did wrong in your eyes Peter ..

A few things I might know
The track manager is the best person to make the calls
Very hard to mix new sand in with old sand when it's wet
Deep harrowing a track in winter without weather conditions good is looking for trouble

Would I help if asked to yes

I WOULD as I have done on many occasions

Great to see Sandown back up and running the boys did a great job getting the track done

For those people who missed it they did end pulling up the new sand and replacing it .
The team also added some much needed drainage on the inside rail .

So far so good with the track and i can notice a huge difference on the inside rail .

Food for thought

Sandowns chips are top notch and i have to admit the Meadows chips have been also upgraded but the meals themselves are a long way behinds sandowns spread ..

Sandown lay on a fantastic meal for the Trainers and handlers with a range of food to eat and huge meal you can eat half and take the other half home with a drink for $10 some weeks its been free..
