NGF (29/12/11) & Recorder (19/1/12)published lists of Aust Records.
Full marks to NGF for keeping the "eternal" records for tracks no longer raced at & distances no longer used,
BUT, between the two publications, there were 23 Wrong,Incorrect or Superceded record times !! And that's just on NSW tracks!
NGF had 17 & Recorder 6.
Some of the correct new records are on the GD data base, BUT, the system, if there is one, doesn't update the TRACK RECORD sections.
Consequently, you see : Tr xyz dog 31.20 (apr 2004)
and then, Fastest of the year : 31.15 (sept 2009)(as an example)
Many of the track records are YEARS OLD !
The track record section in Stadia is missing many distances currently in use today.

Rod, it has always been thus.

Also, a common missing element is that changes to tracks or equipment are rarely noted yet they specifically affect times. New timers in Melbourne are examples. Other changes can significantly affect winning box numbers. One was the alteration to the Warrnambool 450m layout some time back - the distance remaining unchanged.

Sensibly, all Australian form data should be shifted to a professional unit separated from any commercial or authority source.

Some trivia:
Looking at 7 Vic tracks, the track record holders, of distances between 425m & 485 m, have a per metre time of 0.055
At Maitland on thursday, Ebby Infrared (Aussie Infrared x Lonesome Knight) averaged that time & another,
La Grand Quality ( El Grand Senor x All Quality)averaged 0.547, which was slightly slower than it's track record average per metre time of 0.054
Hooked On Scotch averaged 0.056 on Thursday

The shape of the track has a lot to do with that stat

Horse Shoe tracks will always be faster than 4 bend tight circle tracks

Straight tracks, not uphill, should be faster than horse shoe tracks

Agree Sandro. A related principle is that a number of records are run out of box 7 or 8 (see Hooked on Scotch) provided they begin well enough. The slingshot around the first turn has the effect of maintaining higher speed as they enter the turn.

Also variable is the banking on that turn. It can vary but often the Horshoe shape includes a higher bank so the dog can maintain a higher speed. Harold Park was a prime example. The old Maitland track was another.

The reverse is true of spots like Richmond and Ipswich where flattish 1st turns are dictated by the nearby starts for 400m races so 500m dogs can easily be sent wide.

That's a long time ago Rod

I would bet, that at the time, that was the quickest horseshow run per metre anywhere in Australia

If Harold Park was around now I daresay the record would be down to 25.50 or faster

Congratulations to Damien, Tim and the boys on Rajasthan's new track record. It's great to see people who are putting so much into the dogs getting something out of them as well. Hopefully it will stand for some time. Cheers.

Thanks Ryan , we have had an absolute ball watching our boy. Incredible to think he hadn't won a city race from 30 odd starts when we got him. Rob and Deb have done an incredible job with him.

Funny thing is he was never going to Bathurst it was an after thought. The plan was to go Wednesday 600 at the meadows into the rookie rebel. They ran a 7 dog grade 5 rather than putting on a mixed 4/5 as he was deemed to "superior" to go in that field.

We look forward to heading over on the weekend

ITALIAN PLASTIC broken the Shepparton track record on the 30th Jan over the 385m trip, making it 30 wins from 63 starts.

Great dog who always puts in.
