Whilst recovering from injury over the past month we have gone through the process of registering BANJO BOY for stud duties. This included testing his fertility which thankfully was very good.

As of today BANJO BOY has been registered as a sire which we are extremely excited about given his ability and pedigree.

I'd like to thank all those who have made inquiries for their interest and confirm that there will be a limited number of straws available in the short term as it remains our intention to get the dog back to the track once he recovers from injury.

Best To All

Andrew

I am sure he will go well for you Andrew, any reason for starting him at $1,100?

Hi Tor

Just feel he is very unique that it is very fair price for him all considered. I think he offers so much and when compared to the starting price of others think this is very reasonable.

Thanks for asking.

Andrew

Hi Andrew. He is just starting work again now but we will take it slowly the next three or four weeks as we do want to draw enough times to get 20 or so straws. Best andrew

There was a previous thread where people were asking about the bitches that would suit Banjo Boy. This was removed because I failed to follow protocol (whoops).

In the last week David Brasch prepared an independent report that looks into him for an article in this weeks Greyhound Recorder.

Following are some snippets from David's analysis, however the full report can be found on his sire page.

"So when it comes to analysing BANJO BOY as a potential stud dog, he instantly fulfils the first and most important criteria for success.

BANJO BOY not only shared the Warragul track record with greyhound of the year and successful sire El Grand Senor, but with a blistering time of 29.01 he is the second fastest ever around Sandown. He is really something on the track having thrashed future Perth Cup winner and Australian Cup runner-up Keybow by three lengths in the Group 2 Cranbourne Cup.

BANJO BOY has shown freakish ability from the time he first set foot on a track. But, as we said, he was bred to be just what he is something special.

BANJO BOYs dam Off Springer (Flying Penske-Skullring) was a city winner who stayed and then became a broodbitch of the highest order.

The Off Springer family is one of the strongest in the Stud Book. She traces directly to the famed Waroo Lass the dam of Hall of Famer National Lass. This is also the family of champion Bettys Angel, the Group 1 winner and Group 1 producer Leprechaun Pace, and leading sire Magic Sprite.

BANJO BOY has a race career and a pedigree that just oozes class and cries out stud dog.

Q: What bitches will suit BANJO BOY?
A: Just about any and every bitch in Australia!

While BANJO BOYs pedigree boasts many great lines, he could very well become the answer for all those intensely in-bred broodbitches that are across Australia.

Now lets stand back and take a long, hard look at the pedigree of BANJO BOY.

What is it missing? Brett Lee and Bombastic Shiraz.

We have already seen that BANJO BOYs own family has produced Group 1 Australian Cup winner Spud Regis to a mating to Bombastic Shiraz. And we have seen that BANJO BOYs damline to the Brett Lee line sire Mogambo has produced Group staying stars.
So it would make sense for broodbitches owners to flood BANJO BOY with Brett Lee and Bombastic Shiraz females. Bombastic Shiraz, in particular, is ideal. His dam Bombastic Blonde is intensely in-bred to the Princess Diro female line. This is the same family that is saturated in the pedigree of Solve The Puzzle (second sire of BANJO BOY).

It must have become pretty obvious by now that BANJO BOY is a virtual colonial outcross, an Aussie outcross, for certain.

A couple of decades ago, broodbitch owners flocked to the highly successful stud dog Acacia Ablaze. He became known as the colonial outcross.

BANJO BOY could well be the next Acacia Abaze or he could be many, many times better. Certainly his track record speed, his Group winning career, his amazing pace and the many opportunities his pedigree offers says that is more likely."

I agree this bloke is the "Aussie outcross", this dog is a highly talented sprinter and comes from such a strong dam-line he MUST be a success at stud I believe.

I think this dog could be the game changer in Australian breeding!

Im a BIG fan

Paul happy to help and good luck to you and Corey. We're lucky enough to have 6 other bitches confirmed with straws committed. These include Mogambo (recreates sweet it is cross, echelon, grandeur, mechatronic, go mobo, athletics x) bombastic, Kiowa sweet trey and where's Pedro bitches which on paper look like very good matches for him like your surf Lorain girl. Hope the cold weather stays away a bit longer and they all come on season soon. Best and thanks again. Andrew

Great to see Banjo Boy back in the winners list at Warragul last night. I've never met owner, Andrew Varasdi, or his trainer,Ken Virtue but I congratulate them both on bringing the dog back to the track. It's easy to retire a dog to stud while the "boom " is on them following injury, but they have shown great faith in the dog's ability.
I, for one, hope Banjo Boy can return to the great form that made him one of Australia"s most talked about greyhounds.

You would assume he will have more scope to more bitches than his father.I love his father for certain bitches but Banjo has more appeal to a wider pool.
