Anybody help?
Tommy Brislane won his second OPEN Group race (The Bob Payne, G2) on the day of his second birthday.
Two weeks earlier he had won the Open (G1) Dapto Megastar, when Tim Newbold famously called: "And the baby's won..".
I have Kantarn Bale (1999 Melbourne Cup) and Dyna Nalin (2013 Perth Cup) as winners of Open G1 races before their second birthday.
I can't find others who have won TWO Group races before starting their third year, although records are somewhat difficult to trace, particularly before the 1990s. If anybody has any info on other sub-two-year olds to win Open G1 races, and any others who have won two (or more) Group races before finishing their second year, I'd be grateful. Thanks in anticipation.

High Earner went pretty close winning a Vince Curry and then the WA Derby about 3 weeks after his 2nd birthday

Go Wild Teddy may have won 2 Group races before 2 years old, the Young Star Classic and the Winter Stake

Slater won the Shepparton Cup and then The Great Chase (at a few days over 2 years of age)

Fabregas won the Vic National Sprint Final (Not a Group race) but then won the G1 National Sprint Final before 2 years of age (Aug 10, turned 2 in Oct 2010) and was retired

Sandro: thanks. You're right with all four. However, none had won two OPEN Group races before entering their third year.
High Earner's wins were both age restricted; Go Wild Teddy's Young Star was restricted, then he won the Bob Payne; Slater's Shepparton Cup win was well before he was two, and he was 5/1 !!!! and the Great Chase was after he turned two (a week after).
What a star was Fabregas and how similar is his career to Tommy's: he won the all-comers National Sprint Final in Hobart at 47 weeks; Tommy Brislane's G1 Megastar was at 49 weeks. Very similar careers: Fabregas 13 starts, 12 wins; Tommy 16 starts 12 wins.
I hope Tommy can make it back. I guess we'll know in a month or so.
Thanks for your interest, and thanks for the kind words on Steve's Facebook page.

Steve: thanks. Nice for Tommy to be mentioned in the same stratosphere as Brother Fox!!! Although those results are stunning, still looks like he had "only" one Open Group race before he started his third year.

BTW: Before Tommy had been injured I was musing about a possible cover for my bitch Back Page Lead (Brett LeeWave To Tammy), who had just come on season. David Brasch suggested Tommy Brislane would be a hit, with the close up of Brett Lee (3x2). He listed a whole raft of great runners bred on those lines, including Elsie Moss, Ginger, West Cape, New Tears, Amerigo Man (no doubt there are others.
I asked him if there were any modern examples, and he sent back straight away: EL FOOLING !!!

What a star! He was racing in that period before I came back into the sport after a long break. I notice he also ran second in heat of the Hobart Thousand before his Warragul record. Lots of great sires in Knockabout Wok's Cup races and the Temlee.
Winning three Group races before two is some record. None of those is a Gr1 yet, however, so Tommy can still take a little credit. Thanks for the update.
It's fun to look at this era, and see the outcomes years later. David Brasch wrote a terrific column on looking back, via an old magazine in this week's NGF.

Yeah read that yesterday Geoff.
I've also got quite a few oldie's sitting in the book shelf.
Good to reminisce.
They were the days.

Good luck with Tommy mate.
2 Group One's before 2 years...hard to beat.
I hope we get to see him grace the tracks again.
I watched most of his wins..... The boy could run.

Cheers.......Steve

Still looking: PRINCE OF TIGERS won National Sprint (G1) at Angle Park in September 1997, a month before his second birthday (3/10/95). Had previously won WA Derby in May of that year, then Group 3.

Spud Regis (Dec 2010 whelp) won G1 Adelaide Cup in October 2012. No
More Group races in his second year. Won 2013 Australian Cup in March 2013. Precocious. Retired too early.

Ernie Bung Arrow (Nov 24 2011 whelp) won 2013 Adelaide Cup on October 10 2013. G3 SA Derby in December 2013. That is serious young talent! Too bad injury curtailed his career.

The derby was run 2 weeks before the cup, the one in december was the brian johnston.
