How big should 8 week old pups be? As in weight etc?? I'm feeding a diet of bread, milk, beef, eggs, calcium and livamol Also supercoat puppy dry food! What else should I feed?

Just make sure you don't feed them raw egg whites, Anthony. Ours get cream and honey in their brekky, but that's just a personal choice.

Joe, it contains avidin and if given over a longish period, it will destroy biotin, a B group vitamin in the body. Cooked eggs or the raw yolk are ok.

start introducing bones of all kinds and yogurt is great too because they have the jalna bush honey one and it tastes great and has no sugar.Plenty of fat and a good kibble and mince..

Thanks, fellas. Yes James, I forgot to mention that the meat should be fatty, as it is important to help with energy levels, and also helps retain fluid in the body. Joe, extra fat in the diet would help your racing dog too, for the reasons I wrote above. Just monitor his weight, though.

Joe if you want to give raw eggs ,throw them in boiling water for 30 seconds. That sorts out the Avidin problem.

The bit about eating raw eggs.... Im certainly not knocking anyones knowledge or research but it simply does not make any natural sense to me. Eggs are one of natures perfect foods. Could it be that giving one raw egg every 2 days causes no harm and is highly beneficial? And could it be that giving 2 raw eggs every day is likely to be too much, causing the excess avidin to destroy the Bvits?

Jamie, we used to show dogs, and being novices, we used to feed our German Shepherd raw eggs every day. After several months, all of her undercoat fell out. The raw eggs turned out to be the problem, as the avidin was destroying the biotin, which is involved in hair growth, among other things. It probably would have other effects on a racing greyhound, with the loss of biotin. It took a while for her coat to return to normal.

Their only 8 weeks old...for 6 pups...two yolks only per week is plenty mixed through some milk and bread...

The very first trainer I spoke to when I chose to train myself, said she fed no more than 3 eggs/week. I never asked why but I'm guessing its to do with what you're saying Carole. So is the sole purpose of the egg white to protect the yolk? Does it have any nutritional benefits at all?
