Just thought this fellow deserved his own thread. Outstanding sprinter who never receives any recognition on an amazing career.
Group 1 Australian Cup winner of 27 races and over half a million in prizemoney says it all.He once won 10 straight which is no mean feat anywhere.
Hats off to his trainer, Gerald Kleeven, who has kept this dog sound and racing at the top level through out his career.
Unfashioable bred...perhaps, and with the glut of stud dogs currently available, may struggle to attract a lot of bitches. On ability alone he deserves his chance at stud on retirement IMO. I would consider giving him a go with the right bitch if he goes to stud.
Would be interested in everyones thoughts on Luca Neveelk's potential and what bitches may suit.

And therein lies the problem Bert, no recognition and
unfashionly bred. But who is to say he would'nt fire
at stud. Many an "expert" have condemmed many sires!

Great damlines everywhere in his makeup: Osti Lee and National Lass. It doesn't get any better.

Not sure why he is considered " unfashionably bred" grand dam was in a very good litter and the sire line speaks for itself. He may not get a heap of bitches but I don't think he lacks a lot in breeding, will just depend on who uses him early on and who sings his praises, it only takes a few of the well known breeders to use him and a lot of breeders will follow...Group 1 winner and a big stakes earner no reason he can't make it... I'd consider using him as he is a bit of an outcross.

great race dog, but life going forward is going to be pretty hard to establish a new stud dog , just too many uncertainties for most breeders, at this time ,,

mayb in 18/24 months things will settle down ,

Think your right Michael would hate to have a great dog going to stud right now with people not sure if they are going to stay in the game or get out, let alone breed a litter, there is a lot of people treading water at the moment.

He will be lucky to get as ingle bitch. Right now must be THE worst time in history to own a champion racer that is going to stud

I agree with you guys...Times are tough. But it may well be us..."The Little Guys" that weather the storm and drag this industry back on it"s feet. I don"t breed to make money "cause there isn't any. I breed because I love my greyhounds.
I may well use a dog, like Luca Neveelk, because I can, and I think it"s right at the time. Not governed by what is fashionable. Who knows...2 years from now one of those little Luca Neveelks' may be walking out at Wenty as favourite for the Golden Easter Egg...IF there is still an Easter Egg.
Can"t imagine not walking down the back of a morning and being greeted by the old broodbitch, wagging her tail, with a couple of pups tagging along. Like I said...I love my greyhounds, as I know you guys do also.
Hang in there ....We won"t be beaten.

Bert
I agree mate. Breed to what you think is right for your butch and what you want to achieve with her is usually the best way to go

Nothing wrong with Luca's lines at all and he went as hard into a 1st turn as any dog I have seen

He was fearless

Cheers

Sandro

IF kept at 'home' and advertise 'FREE'... would think he would get pups on the ground...surely that would be a first priority...???

Bert, email me your phone number and I will get hubby to pass it on to Gerry, as they have a dog in with us tonight at Sandown. I'm not sure if their number is a private one or not. My details are on my profile.
