No PT required on TAB when having first ever start or unplaced Country start.

Thanks Jodie. Good new that prizemoney won't be reduced.

My understanding is that those meetings will be graded as provincial for the purposes of the grading policy.

That's good news about the performance trials. Thanks Mark.

Carly,

Re "That's good news about the performance trials" (ie no longer required).

As a minimum, they at least offered investors a rough guide to what a maiden might do. Betting on Maidens is fraught with danger but some info is better than nothing.

Another point would be that PTs are generally conducted with only 2 or 3 starters, which is much kinder to a learner finding its way around. Confidence?

The youngsters will get trialled anyway. It's just a matter of whether customers hear about them or not. Transparency?

G'day Bruce, you wer'e right when you said "rough guide & might do",purely speculative, they were never about giving the " punter" a leg up,but more so about increasing betting pool's.As far as transperancy, how many maiden events in horse racing go around with no "exposed" barrier trial's ...hundreds every week.Personally,i think it was one of the best changes to transpire from the recent grading change's,at least if the owner's & trainer's want to have a decent punt on their dog's,off trial form, they can without the "cream" taken off the top of the cake. Also Bruce,PT's were fraught with some in-consistent "passes & fail's",without mentioning the track or steward, one week a PT that went 4/10 slower got a green light yet the faster one got failed...seriously,work that out.
Cheers Bruce.

Bruce from a punters point it is good to have some form I agree but from a owners point they want it all there not worried about as you say mugs in pubs. From a trainers point in our case we like to give them 2 or 3 p.t.s before they start racing as it is very had to get field trials these days and no dog should go to the races without any field work.

Folks, I understand all the motives outlined here but what I don't know is why the Rule has been changed - that has not been explained.

Betting is what makes the industry go round and more or less knowledge is what prompts more or less betting. Or it used to before mugs came to dominate the betting ranks. So I reason that the more knowledge you can get, the better off everyone is. The PTs are only a tiny part of that but they are a part.

The same principle applies to good dogs officially trialling prior to racing in premium events at a new track. I would like to see that made compulsory, but it isn't.

Whatever, it is also why we produce formguides in the first place.

Note that it is only a short time ago that Victoria allowed unraced Maidens to race in their two premium events for youngsters (male and female). That is now banned and for good reason.

I don't think jump-outs at the gallops are a great guide as they are primarily for barrier experience in a field and are run over very short distances. And many don't run in them anyway.
