I would love to hear the Vets version of events ...

I have no problem with any Vet pulling out any Dogs he or she believes is not fit to race ...Tuff Titties ..

Few years ago I had a dog unfairly scratched by a vet. I was very upset and made my feelings known.
One of the people who fired back at me was the one who owns this dog.

Not a nice feeling hey Timmy.

Tricky 1...

Being the vet is a tough spot.. You let it run.. it breaks down.. Who's head is on the block? the vet for letting it slide.

They scratch it cause they dont deem it ok.. owners/trainer blow up.

Lose lose for the vet either way. Will never know if it would have broke down, all assumption.

It does sound very minor and i'd be dirty also but not an easy task to determine what is ok and not as a vet sometimes

Overzealous decision as confirmed by the revet.
Sounds clear cut to me.
Hope they get the compensation they deserve.

Slightly different story in the stewards' report after race 12 at Geelong yesterday.

Totaly different story IMO
Shima Breeze In accordance with GAR 73, presented for a re-vet at the conclusion of kennelling as the greyhound was found to be injured at Sandown on 7 May 2020. Shima Breeze was examined by the on-track veterinarian and found to be injured, subsequently the greyhound was not cleared to race. A sample was taken in accordance with GAR 79 (1), having presented for the purpose of revoking a stand down period (re-vet).

Sam, I've had a couple break down in a race and finish their careers that day.
Never once, not even for a second, did I consider blaming the vet.

I think Tim has a right to be upset, particularly if it was only a scab that fell off an old spike would.
But I would like to politely remind him that he had a fair crack at me for daring to question the judgement of a vet.

Ambiguity in geelong report was it cleared or not? Does it depend on the analysis of the sample? And what did that have to do with the spike wound

The Swab is part of revet most times these days .
its GRV way to get back at you for doing a Re Vet.

Now this is what i don't understand ..

The Vet at Sandown does not touch your dog he looks at it from a distance .

The Trainer must of pointed out the Spike wound to the Vet ..

if you had a Scab on a Wound that wound is not healed in 7 days 100% ..FACT

Sand burn is different many dogs has some degree of sand burn at any time..

Two Greyhound Track Vets agreed that the wound is either not healed or may carry some kind of infection or both .

The `spike' occurred two weeks before the Thursday Night's incident. If the dog was fit to race and the scab that fell off the abrasion didn't leave a gaping hole, play on....

How did the Vet find out about the Spike the Trainer must of told the Vet
Both GRV Vets agreed the dog was not right to race its the VETS Call..
Both of them agreed that it was still healing or there could of been
a slight infection
swelling and redness ..
Fair call IMO

So many people have been scratched in this way over the years so why does it now become a problem is it because the Trainers are PRO kennels do they think they are above the Vets call ..

If the trainer keeped there mouths shut then the Vet would not of seen the scab ...so you cannot blame the Vets for doing there Jobs

It's not the trainers that are complaining and threatening legal action Kev. It's the owner.

The dog went over the table .... passed .... play on. Can anyone explain where the scab was, how big, after it fell off - was there blood or just redness ?
Quote
Deb kenneled Shima Breeze on Thursday night with no problems at all over the table fine. The spike wound had scabbed over perfect and wasnt an issue. Then when Debs got her out for the race the vet has looked at the foot again and noticed the scab had come off. So it had that pinkish look to it, all part of the healing process. The vet has looked at it and tried to draw blood from it but nothing, it was perfectly fine. Yet the decision was still made to make her a late scratching. End Quote

Redness shouldnt stop it from running unless .... the dog was in extreme pain and location of abrasion prevented it from running. Geez, Id hate to see other stewards overseeing pig dogs! Theyd be plenty of feral pigs running around.

One argument is about the scab/abrasion and the scratching, and other is about the owner. I wish I was there.

JQ
The way i see and read it..... it's both Owner and Trainer who is complaining .

There are a few things missing i feel
Why did the Vet know about the Scab because the Vets do not even pick a leg up to check a foot these days .

The trainer must of made the Vet aware of the problem so the trainer gave themselves up no one else did .

Both GRV Track Vets cannot be wrong and i have not seen a Vindictive GRV Vet in 30 years at a track ..

All the Vets at the tracks do a very good job IMO ...

I am unsure what the Owner thinks he can achieve other than to piss off the GRV and we all know what happens then don't we ...

Do the PRO trainers feel they are as good as the vets..
Dogs get scratched for a lot reasons this is not uncommon in Victoria ...

PS
The Owner will be wasting his time and his money if he feels he can take on the GRV and the Vets ..He cannot win this because its a bullshit case and will be thrown out of Court IMO .

I think the Owner needs to read the rules of racing in regards to the GRV track Vets ...

PSS
I think this is the first time i have backed the GRV a very rare thing indeed JQ..

Any more news on this matter ? Was there a complaint made to GRV and/or start of litigation?
