More BS for you Paul My Father imported yound dogs from Ireland for London Harringay. Dad used an agent at Harolds Cross. Irish agents that were successful knew bloodlines fluently, those agents that ignored bloodlines didnt last too long.

It has been a interesting topic with each person having there own opinions so let me throw a CURVEBALL into the discussions.
Many of the old lines were ring ins .IMO When a well known Brood was bred with many would add pups to each litter this was a well known thing back in the day .
Old Keith Warburton well known Greyhound man from up at Tatura way may he RIP told me about his good bitch that was stolen and he never seen her again this was the norm back in the day many were out to make a fast buck Who knows who is who because we still have not got the DNA information gathered many years ago by Gavin Fitzpatrick IT STILL REMAINS A CLOSED BOOK...
We all know that many back in the day some studmasters and Sires never missed a bitch sometimes backing up day after day to serve the needs of all but many were mated to brothers or same colour Greyhound to ensure they never missed .
It has been proven that Stud masters cheated the breeders over the years..They ripped a lot of people off ...IMO
Years ago people breed to the closet Sire they could and what they could afford at the time ..
Many did not have books to help guide them with sire choices so no one can tell me the Greyhound was bred by breeding the best with the best.
Only when we can see the DNA records that we will further see just how wrong we truly are ...IMO
Today we have frozen semen and we are now seeing Past Sires throwing better today years after they have passed because maybe at the time it was the wrong timing so maybe we should look at what Frozen semen has done for the breed today because then we do truly see the huge change and swing we see at present in all our fastest hounds IMO we can now breed the best with the best only because of frozen .

In my opinion the expression "Breeding Guru" is used far to often these days. Liam Dowling, the Ballymac man from Ireland and Paul Wheeler from Australia are the only ones I would attach the term "Breeding Guru" to at the moment. Both these guys have developed or maintained strong bitch lines for generations and have set up future bloodlines for years to come.
There are several people out there that know a lot about bloodlines and these people are a valuable aid in helping us with our sire selections but as they will tell you they are not "Breeding Gurus".
I think anyone coming onto a forum and trying to help others has to be a good thing and it is appreciated.
The person that knows all about breeding, rearing and training has not been born yet.
We need to respect each others views take whatever information we want from what they are saying, it's called learning which we all should never stop doing.

"What is the secret to eternal happiness?" The wise Guru answered: "To not argue with fools."
The man says: "I disagree."
The wise Guru replied:
"Yes, you are right."

I don't think anyone is arguing. Free and open discussion, with people having differing opinions is healthy and enlightening. Nothing better than throwing an opposing theory into a debate to spark things up.

In other words you just wanted a laugh by stir, you have nothing constructive to offer

Far from it. I think I've been able to add a different perspective to the topic. I'm not being contrary or rude.

I find your perspective reasonable and interesting, but then again I'm open minded and willing to accept deferring opinions.

Importing Semen from Countries where DNA profiling did not exist at the time !!!!!! Are they DNA profiling Sires in the USA and IRELAND these days ? Australia was the first regarding DNA profiling of Greyhounds by years !!!! In the 70's and earlier a lot of Broods were sent too Studs via Train, a lot of good faith relied on in those days imo !!!!!

While there would and has been proven to be dishonest studmasters. Its a bit like society in general. You like to think and have faith the majority of society are fair minded and good people. Why would greyhound racing be any different to the rest of general society?
As for the dishonest ones...the chances would be high that most of these types of matings would have been just slow wastage and you wouldnt think affect the integrity of the pedigree database that much.

To answer your question, because money was involved.

I think Paul's views are fair & reasonable.
Yes, Dixie likes to dangle a carrot from time to time but when that happens, you won't need to put your glasses on.
There's nothing wrong with looking outside the square when it comes to opinions.
