The importance of outcross Graham! I keep coming back, to my original entry into the topic.

Gails Beauty had the greatest success to import Proper Streak - Odious then came about through the same import sire line of Proper Streak. And of course Paul Wheeler has been the leader in imbedding outcross for decades.

Wandering Cloud, was sired by an import. Then Highly Blessed came about, with more outcross added to the mix, through Waverley Supreme.

I read Jeff Holland on another forum, was having a chuckle at this topic, when we were all discussing Mike Ivers and the Trojan Tears dam line. Saying, the main reason they went to Fernando Bale 4 or 5 times with Tears Siam - was because, they had to look to compete with the other superior Fernandos and top offspring from top broods.

Then why has Mick Ivers bought up all the remaining Goodesy vials and bred to Goodesy for a quality result so far a Sandown 29.29 flying machine and a decent litter over all? Goodesy very fast, but was no superstar superior sire. Plenty either loved or hated his stud career.

IMO hes picking the eyes out of his dam line, thanks to all that outcross, he embeds. As well, no doubt setting up the next generation.

Think it was Sandro that said theres value in older sires - the way everyone just goes to Fernando, Barcia and their sons. These older sires are becoming the colonial outcross, when you dont want an outcross!

I purchased a Dozen or so Goodesy vials around 3 or 4 years ago because i thought he would make a good Broody sire !

I might retire too another state where Greyhound Breeders aren't treated like Leper's and use
some of them !

Yes the power of the outcross. Look at Barcia damline origins

Note Proper Streak Come on Wonder is Hi There sireline
Come on Wonder litter sister super star Dolores Rocket who went to the barn for disappointing results

Note Waverley Supreme is Hi There sireline
Temlee a Pigalle Wonder sireline. Hi There x Pigalle Wonder blood was a well proven cross
Using Aging sires was a Tesio favourite if sire in good health

Paul Wheeler used plenty of outcross sires and even coursing sires but always continued to re align his dam line. He actually split his breeding dams into two teams with one group of bitches breeding race dogs and the other group breeding future broods to breed back to his own line after two or three crosses. David Bale is a good example. Cheers
