iv heard it puts pace back into a line and was done quite a lot back in the old days,,,anyone know any top lines of today that were devloped by doing this,,,

not to sure on pace but normally they would be a stronger built dog put a bit of size build into the dogs but now many people think the coursing dogs would be to built for the tracks. Also back then quite a few of the tracks where grass.

think matt o donnel used cross coursing lines back into track breeding and had huge success,,,

I've always been interested by track/coursing breeding, it was always popular before Aussie/US blood was available to Irish breeders as an ideal outcross. I don't think it will ever be as popular again but has been proven in the past, but the likes of Newdown Heather and Minnesota Miller were great outcrosses between the 2 codes. I had a very good bitch who unfortunately was injury prone called ONE COOL CAT CLICK HERE She had the track/coursing outcross, and Mick Puzey (Walthamstow trainer) stated 'shes as fast as anything I've schooled, including Roses Opinion (Oaks Finalist)and I'm Frankie (Scurry Cup winner & British bred Greyhound of the Year)' She was out of a Hilltown bitch and her damline led back to Waterloo Cup winner Hear and There. Last year a Larkhill Jo bitch ran in the Irish Coursing Oaks for the O'Donnells, and I'm sure she'll end up being a good brood.

i was thinking of using a coursing sire on one of my own track bitches just to see what would come of the mating,,,the only thing is id be half afraid they wouldnt go on the track,,,the dog id like is boavista,,,

I've thought exactly the same and Boavista is the dog I've thought of. Hilltown (his sire) is without doubt the best of the coursing lines to use, as he's by Newry Hill who's track bred. I saw Boavista win the Champion Stakes at Clonmel, most impressive.

also to add to it steve he has newdown heather on both sire and dams side,,,oh serious pace tell me has a top coursing dog more pace then a top track dog,,,say if a derby winner was to race a coursing derby winner up a straight who would win,,,

We have bred Siena Steels dam to Ballymac Maeve, as she is a 5/6 month seasonal bitch,it was to late to breed to coursing,Back in the early eighties we had a Linda's Champion bitch(Miss Brahms) whose granddam was a coursing bred, when we bred her after racing, she threw a host of pacy dogs, but I think it's in the 2nd generation where you get the pace,
