It would depend upon WHY they were unraced ?

Many say "unraced kept especially for breeding" when in fact they mean "dare not put her on a track as she is faulty, fights, or does not chase properly".

The droopys lads are regularly quoted when this topic is mentioned but they have usually given the bitch some trials including at least one official trial so that they know that she could run a bit.

Personally my view is that bitches (like all greyhounds) are bred to at least race a few times to see where the strengths and weaknesses are....otherwise how do you know what to put in to improve your stock ?

imo for what its worth ,id rather breed from a top class race bitch as you know they were straight and quick ,i beleive you have more chance of producing genuine chase .

Well John i'd be stuffed why one would breed from a faulty, fighter or non chasing skunk. Actually i think it be rare for one to chance a bitch with those attributes and not sensible at all. However it does happen, although i think the opinions of this type of mating would occur more. But again thats just how the breed today is, and will continue so as this is what results from commercial breeding.

Hey Dixie, maybe you should revisit this thread. Some very sensible comments from some highly respected breeders. Yes, dont worry you do feature in the post in the typical Dixie Way. Hey , wait a minute, another good name for a dog (DIXIE WAY). I like it , what about you Dixie. Maybe Ron could call one of his RA,s out of his useless bitch that name. Who knows could turn out to be a champion. Cheers

As Michael Macquire said - he had two un raced bitched - Spiral Siyan and Crystal Siyan.
Both were un raced and been successful broods.
Spiral, in particlular, was a tiny little brindle girl I chose not to race and she has gone on to produce MULTIPLE Group winning dogs including Kiss Me Katut and Mystic Apple.
Interestingly her dam, Flight and Life, was ALSO unraced.
Neither Spiral's litter or Flight's litter produced any notable race dogs.
So not a lot to go on with when deciding to breed or not BUT the breeding was there - SN over a Light of Fire/Flying Amy direct daughter - a very strong successful damline.
Researching the breeding and traits and choosing to put this girl to hard chasers resulted in some very good dogs.
In saying that, I am not condoning or knocking breeding un raced bitches. Its proven that it can work sometimes BUT I think you have to have some powerful bloodlines, a very strong damline and lots of luck.
Nice to see Siyan girls in the bloodlines of some really good dogs.
Well done to the breeders of these dogs.

Hey Sandro, I definitely wouldnt doubt your word. It says on Fast Track she was unraced and also on data. I understand data is not always up to date with racing but grv are usually pretty good. That may have been her only start but certainly not showing as racing or winning. Cheers

Hi Michael, if I didn't actually see her race I would be in your boat

What I have found is that race records for greyhounds born over 25 years ago is either patchy or missing

Im pretty sure, she won at Wenty in 30.30 and Richmond in around 30.70. She got a ticket, I think for fighting? It was a prolific Wenty winning litter - Some Secret very fast, Kidman, Hidden Affair, Banderas etc Secret Bride, Spanish City were speedy Group class bitches as well.

Proper Pom produced this very fast Group class dog at Harold Park - EXTERNAL LINK

According to The Dogs website Elusive Rebel won 4 from 11, including her last 3.

Sound Lee also unraced. Unraced doesn't mean lacking ability, some greyhounds (like Sound Lee) don't race for genuine reasons.
