Achillies tendon injury

I have a dog with a stretched achillies tendon for the first few days his toes were clawed a good bit toghther and dog was slightly lame he's currently with a good friend of mine who is really good and he says his progress in 2 weeks is very good he is only a young dog he goes by the name ballymac dale and we were very excited about his future does anyone have any info on this injury as I've never had a dog with this and would like to make sure when we get him bk he is given every chance thanks

This kind of injury is at the top for a not so good return to racing and can take over 6 months to get back to the track if at all if torn or ruptured .
IMO there seems to be a bit more going on if his toes are Clawed .
Personally I would get scan done of the area and check his back around the lower sacral area .
Allan I have a bitch ( Surley Bassi ) who tore her Achilles' tendon in a trial on a Saturday morning I had her with vet on Monday morning he cemented it, not sure of the process although he done all as I was there, within two months she qualified back in and within another two months was the proud holder of a track record in Longford and runs tonight in a Derby trial stake in Longford, the vet who carried out the work for me was Denis Beary

Definitely worth getting vetted. We gave ours Stem Cell treatment at Sandown for a torn achilles. Kinda expensive but worth every cent when u get the good dogs back to racing. Won two races since so well and truly paid for himself already!

Yes Sean in my post above were Surley was cemented this process involved Stem Cell treatment and was not expensive over here

Ok thanks for info looked a great prospect and will be getting all necessary treatment and your comments give me hope the vet that's fixing him told me it wasn't tore it was stretched hadn't came away from the bone

Hi Allen go to your health food shop ,get some vitamin c give half a flat teaspoon per day that will build collagen in the tendon.if you can borrow a laser give 20 second 3 times a week. Cheers jack.
