What kibble are the top trainers using these days?

When I used to race Hills Science Diet was the go to kibble but I notice it's ingredients have been altered over the last 5-10 years and perhaps trainers have swapped to another brand.

Cheers guys

Whichever one they are currently getting for free or are being paid to say they use! :)

The vast majority of trainers seem to use Coprice....

Box 1 Gold is very popular.

I think a lot of people are not using the 'high end' brands as much.

I use Pedigree Working Dog
Protein 24%
Fat 10%
Sells for around $38.00 per bag in the rural outlet stores.
My dogs seem to do alright on it.

We use Box 1,have done for years..

There far more costly, certainly didn't see any benefit..

Next Generation Pet Foods make some quality kibbles that are reasonably priced. Been using their holistic Lamb and Rice for years. Just thought I'd mention it - but then I am not a top trainer so what would I know :)
Cheers,
Tom

Here's one of the millions of things I don't get.

Why is kibble which has rice in it any better than the grain stuff?

Dogs don't wander through paddocks nibbling on grain, not many graze their way through rice fields either. Or potatoes or any of the other 'holistic' grain alternatives.

That's why 90% of kibbles are a complete crock!

It is a filler. There is very little nutritional benefit to be gained from kibble....
Most of the ingredients are indigestible for dogs. Most vegetable matter for example needs to be partially digested beforehand (i.e. offal) for the dog to get anything out of it. They just don't have the necessary enzymes to break down raw (or even cooked) vegetables.

Considering how much they actually get out of kibble, it is ludicrous what companies put into it and what people pay for it!

I've said it many time........it is glorified roughage.

You are better off getting a Nutribullet and pulverising vegies with water

Hi Jaime - Dogs are omnivorous which means they can eat meat and plant products. So in the wild they do so and don't just eat meat. Especially when times are hard. Their digestive system is designed to digest both. The reason a lot of the premium kibbles only use rice cereal is that it is much better to digest and provide nutrients to the dog. The cheap kibbles are bulked up with bran (wheat by product) which is pure fibre and goes straight through. You can notice if you feed cheap wheat based kibbles you get heaps of poop. With the premium ones you get very little excreted as it is all well metabolised. Hope this helps. Cheers

Still wasting your time and money IMO.

This is a very good article on why dogs can "survive" with grains, veges, starch and carbs in their diets.....but it isn't their ideal diet, and it certainly doesn't mean they will thrive.
