Murray I am not a believer in Kibble - 1% to 3% Salt is detrimental to the Animal - I say Animal because I have the same opinion of Cat Horse and other feeds with Salt. If Humans consumed the level of salt fed daily to Greyhounds they could suffer hardening of arteries, restricted blood flow, Cramping, pins and needles, high blood pressure and possibly heart attack. All sound familiar??

Greyhound Diets: (You will find my thoughts in earlier posts)

FRESH !! You feed FRESH meat so why feed cooked meat with SALT
What is the Carb in Kibble ?? - Again with SALT
What is the Fat/Fatty Acid in Kibble ?? again with SALT.
Why SALT ?? It is a preservative.
Your options are Bread, Rice, Pasta, Oats, Corn Flakes, Vegetables, etc.
Fat / Fatty Acids - Omega 3 6 & 9 Oil - Omega 3 for Joint, Cognitive tissue, Omega 6 for skin and Coat, The most important Omega 9 - The ENERGY Omega. Make sure the Oil you feed is a blend of all 3 Omegas.
Protein. The role of Protein is to build strength and fibre to the muscular system.
24% Protein Kibbles together with Meat sees Diets at 70% - 75% - 80% Protein Diets.

Greyhound Athletes require Carbohydrate as 1st & 2nd Gear
Fat Fatty Acids as 3rd & 4th gear.
Protein will not be burnt as energy where Carb and Fat are present in required amounts in the Greyhound Diet.

So what would be the best replacement for 130g of kibble daily ?
Bread has salt also ?
Whos going to cook rice pasta or buy cornflakes for 50 dogs daily ?

I don't know about what the majority of people in the greyhound industry think about using kibble in their diet but I'm a believer in it ! We won't feed anything but fresh quality beef & Eukanuba as the main base to a greyhounds evening meal. The use of a top quality kibble means you can cut back on most of those additives in their diet which can unbalance it & make it less palatable to the dog + Eukanuba is made to a proven formula so its balanced & contains all the nutrition a racing greyhound diet requires. Our greyhounds thrive on it. Just an opinion based on our experiences.

24% Protein Kibbles together with Meat sees Diets at 70% - 75% - 80% Protein Diets.

Does this mean adding meat to a 24% kibble you would increase protein percentage to around 60-80%?

I'm pretty sure most of us are aware that to many carbohydrates in a greyhounds diet can increase the risk of cramping & when extra oil or fat is added to their diet natural vitamin e should be increased as well.

Your right Steve .if you use canola oil far better as it has vitamin e some times people place to much emphasise on protein & carbs( not saying that is not important) but a good balance and a quality Calcium imho is just as important . Cant believe out there some trainers dont give their dogs calcium which is essential for good muscle contraction .calcium is just as important keeping a good P H as magnesium and potassium. If you use calcium dont use the DCP from China its not balanced and doesnt have any VitaminD which is important for the absorption of calcium.( quite expensive that why some calcium manufacturers dont include it in their blends.) Yes my calcium plus has it plus many other essential vitamins, minerals. Cheers jack.

I couldn't train a pig to be dirty and even I used to boil up brown rice for the dog's evening meal. If you aren't willing to do the one percenters you shouldn't be training.
