Depends on how serious you are, Abdullah.

You will get 10,624 different suggestions here and most will be a kind of commercial kibble.
My suggestion is to Google how they make commercial kibble, then ask yourself if you would eat it.

Make your own...
You can use rice, pasta, oats, fresh vegs, even bread.
All will give you good results without the rubbish.

If you aren't that fussed just buy any kibble...they are all rubbish.

Good luck.

Abdullah, I AM talking about dry food to race.
Maybe I'm getting a wee bit confused...
Do you want to feed dry food ONLY to racing dogs or in addition to raw meat?

Abdul, I use a little dry kibble, but find wholemeal Bread a good source as well with fresh Beef and veggies simple.
It all comes back to commonsense

Sound like you have acces to Gains products.

If so and you want a dry food with NO need for raw/cooked meat or vegs, get GAIN Record Breaker.

Complete feed with all proteins, minerals and vitamins needed for a Race dog.

fwiw I have been using advance large breed for a few years, no meat no additivies cept calcium & sodiums, and a bit of extra fat. I add fat cause I read somewhere that paw reckons 30% fat is good.

why advance ? cause it has only 25% protein, in the past most premium brands had protein levels of 30%. I heard at a kel grenough seminar that at the time he was feeding high earner a 30% protein mix and it caused real problems with the blood.

my dogs might no be the fastest on the track but they look fantastic & r in really good health both on the inside and out

no one rubbishes the diet when the dog wins & very hard to get a positive swab too

Abdullah - don't be afraid to try it - it goes alright

Abdullah
I have always had reservations about Dry Food.
If humans were to consume salt at the level fed to Animals via Dry Feed issues such as hardening of the Arteries, High blood pressure and Heart attacks would be an issue.
So why should it be different in animals??
Greyhound Trainers feed Fresh meat - So why feed cooked meat with Salt added - They feed Carbohydrate in the form of Bread Rice Oats Vegetables - So why feed Carbohydrate with added salt in the form of dry food. Many trainers feed fresh oil Omega 3 6 & 9 so why feed fat/fatty acid in dry feed with added salt?

Peter,
Abdullah imported the greyhound Dragon SA from the United States. It would stand to reason that he would continue the feeding regime used by Louie Rivera, the breeder from whom he got the dog. Mr. Rivera has been a breeder and racing owner for many years and would surely be able to pass on a health and nutrition program for Dragon SA whom he once owned.
The book, Care of the Racing Greyhound (by Blythe, Gannon, and Craig) is an excellent source of information and contains a well-researched chapter on nutrition, including a comparison of American vs. Australian feeding methods.

Abdullah was asking for ideas on what Dry Foods others were using - It sounds like he wants to change away from what the Greyhound has been fed.
what is the reference to Salt in the diet from dry food in the references you quote ??

Sorry, Peter - I apparently misunderstood Abdullah's initial question. There, he is asking what "the best dry food" may be.

Since the dog he imported was never raced, it seemed to me that the best person to ask regarding a change in diet would be the breeder/owner, Louie Rivera. He would be able to supply info as to the brand of dry food Dragon SA had been fed in the US and what he might recommend if a change were needed. I am not a veterinarian, but if I were the owner of a dog who races in the desert, I would be inclined to consult a LOCAL veterinarian about dietary and other health advice, pertaining to the special conditions under which these dogs race in Saudi Arabia.

Peter: I can remember the 90's when Eukanuba was the supposed best thing since sliced bread. After about 2-3yrs feeding just Eukanuba complete dog food, many dogs developed kidney & liver problems. Meat, (Beef, Roo, Lamb, Chicken) must make up the bulk of a dogs diet imo. Totally agree with you. Good luck Abdullah

Peter, Terry charges $75 a consultation what's your fee? What did $75 get me on this occassion EXTERNAL LINK from BigW home brand I think probably very Sir Henry Bolte don't know I haven't tasted them personally. Not a bad deal $16 for 15kgs and within budget and it's a good thing that both dogs I train are retirees due the high Sir Henry content of the product. Thanks Terry for putting me onto Woofbix as you've done it again, your a flaming marvel and worth every cent of the $75 fee you invoiced me. - Macwollie

If you can remember the 90s Tezzla, you weren't trying hard enough.
