G'day Peter, this is a question that could throw up a 1000 preferences & reason's for choosing which protein source that each trainer feed's,as all of the the choice's that you have stated have advantage's & disadvantages,ie;chicken mince- high in protein, good fat ratio but low in iron content ( whole dressed bird ),horse meat-,high protein, high iron level's but very little fat,etc which mean's adjustments to dietry requirement's for greyhound's in work & racing. Now, i haven't trained for somtime now but i still believe that a diet that consist's of a semi lean beef with a tablespoon of Safflower Oil/ Canola Oil added nightly,& a good quality kibble contai ing up to 22-26% protein,( along with essential supplement's ) is genrally adequate. I know that some trainer's may also prefer to use " meat replacement " diet's,because of advancements in " complete kiblle " formulation's,some are as high as 36% protein & 24% fat!,i think at the end of the day,it come's down to personal choice, cost's & convenience.I'm sure every one has success which ever they feed...at some point, but an intresting question that you have asked.

For what it's worth, we feed beef to the racing dogs more so because we get a consistent fat content week in week out from the supplier which for us makes it a bit easier to get the balanced diet. We use some protein powders around race days.
