Hi I have a Jan 17 dog who went lame after a trail on his right leg four weeks ago. I brought him to the vet and got a X-ray . Showed a chip in his right wrist. Sorry not sure where abouts , I should of asked more but to me it looked like the corner of the wrist. The vet didnt sound to optimistic, said its the worst place to get it. Did say however 3 months of and would have a 50/50 chance.

Next day I ordered zheng gu shui and have been using it the past two weeks. He is showing no sign of pain when flexing the wrist. Very flexible no stiffness. The stuff seems to have done a good job.

I was wondering on the information available to you when do you think he would be able to start galloping . I would like to get a month galloping into him before considering the track again.

Could a chip bone heal as fast as 4 weeks? Would a new X-ray be worth doing ?

Any help much appreciated. Thanks

I'd make sure that the chip is not floating around FIRST. Then if all good -

I'd be more inclined to take the slow approach Deano as the pup is only a baby (17 months).
I'd still keep the dog in a small kennel with a roof low enough to stop him/her from jumping.
On the lead also when emptying out or in a small yard, no bigger than 10m x 10m.
Keep doing what you're doing with the ointment a couple of times a week.
After week 8 I'd let him out in a medium yard 40m x 40m & let him go for a quick lap & no more. Take a squeaker with you so you can catch him/her as (s)he'll want to go berzerk.
Do that every 2nd day for 2 weeks, as long as he pulls up good. Don't be surprised if he pulls up sore the first time but should be good next morning. I'd ice as well in a bucket after each run for 5 minutes to prevent any minor swelling.
If all goes good, give him a 100m metre call-up. Ice again. Repeat every 2nd day & go back a little further each time. This will help strengthen the bone.
If all goes well, he'd be ready for a short slip (250/300m) around the corner but start him 20m from the corner to prevent him from hitting the corner to fast.
If you believe the wrist is not right at any time, cease running & seek a vet.
Remeber time & patience is the key to this types of injury.
Good luck

Good advice, Stevo.
If it's floating it needs to come out.
The two most important things in all that...TIME - PATIENCE.

Buy yourself a straight jacket, Deano!
Lol.

Sorry to hear that James. I fear this boy will most likely be the same. His split home was pretty good to considering he most of been struggling with the pain. As said above by Stevo , I'll just give him plenty of time and ease him back into work. Try build strength in the bone. Worst case he's a lovely 75lb blue dog so hopefully be easy to get him a nice sofa .

Hi Dean I had a dog with the similar chipped wrist bone had the chip removed I kept him indoors in a cage only letting him out on the lead walking etc and swimming. I actually managed to get him graded back in but the wrist went on the 1st bend, and he weighed 72lb. He now enjoys life indoors with me. It actually helps if when schooling to strap the wrists up.

Hi Carole , yeah I'm not very optimistic. Any stories I hear or old threads I read the news is never good. I will give him plenty of time to try heal and once ready I'll give him one more try but if goes again I won't put him threw it anymore and find him a nice home while he's still young. I have a couple of promising ones starting out and I think I will look into wrist strapping with them. But I still hold a little hope and hopefully I can write up a success story on this thread to give the next person some hope who may read this in the future. Thanks
