Hi all...I have a hound that has been diagnosed with low thyroid, it is at 9 when it should be at 19 according to the vet. Have been told he will need medication for the rest of his life. Looking f or any information if anyone has come across this before and also if anyone knows if there's an alternative to Thyforin 400mg tablets as I'm guessing these are going to be expensive. Thanks in advance!

Sarah, make sure that you see a vet who knows a lot about greyhounds, as pet vets are not familiar with greyhounds' blood readings. Greyhounds can normally have a lower thyroid reading than other breeds. Thyroxine tablets are a common treatment out here, among other things, but the individual dog's response to them should be monitored occasionally. Also, it may not be necessary to keep him on it long term, especially if it is racing, as I know of some really good dogs who completely lost form while being treated. They regained their form after they were taken off the tablets. Hope this helps, and good luck.
