03 October 2018 A Queensland greyhound trainer is facing 70 fraud and drug charges including allegations he doped greyhounds he owned and trained with methylamphetamine to gain a race day advantage and win prizemoney or wagering money. The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) has now suspended the greyhound licence of the trainer Anthony Hess. QRIC Commissioner Ross Barnett said that in accordance with the Commissions Greyhound Standard for a licensing scheme, the Commission may immediately suspend any licence where charges of a criminal nature which require the Commission to exercise a duty of care to participants or animals or to safeguard the integrity of the Queensland racing industry. The Standard, endorsed by the Commission on 1 July 2016, also states that an applicant must be assessed as a fit and proper person to be granted a licence, including the ability to display good character and operate within the laws and regulations of the State of Queensland, he said. Hess has been advised of his suspension through his solicitor. Hess was arrested last Friday 28 September, he appeared in the Richlands Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on 26 November, 2018
