I recently bought a six mth old bitch that will obviously grow into a very large at least 30 kg bitch ..a friend pointed out to me her massive growth knuckles were actually like a big lump but with a dimple down the middle ...to describe it its more like a peach than an apple ...but thats what he called it .
I asked him will it come against her ...will it cause problems ..does it mean shes no good ? he wasnt sure about any of it ...he just knew she was what the old timers called apple jointed She seems to run fine and in fact looks quite fast ...has anyone had any experience of this ...should i be concerned ...should i be treating her with anything ?

David, it sounds like a perfectly normal joint to me. These are the radius and the ulna bones, and there is an obvious, normal gap between the two bones, as the pup is growing. It won't be quite so obvious when she has finished growing. Hope she turns out well for you.

thanx Carole ...im not overly concerned ...but the growth knuckle is defintley different to most growing pups ...was thinking to consult a greyhound vet ...but to be honest ...if i can take the lack of comment on this post as its not really a recognised problem ..im thinking worrying about nothing ...to describe it ...imagine a peach ...with its dimple ...thats what the knuckle looks like ...with the dimple cleaved down the middle of the the wrist directly facing the dog head on

David, if she looks like being a large bitch, and showing no obvious signs of any discomfort, then I think she is pretty normal. We have a German Shepherd pup who is just over a year old. He had large knuckles, which have now smoothed over, as he has finished growing. There was also a noticeable gap between the 2 growing bones until he matured.
