Frank I've never had any luck with dogs that didn't chase. I have tried everything possible.. literally!! sent them off to schoolers and they would come back chasing for a bit and then gone again.im sure their is people who have a positive story for you cause some do chase when the penny drops. Not for me though. The first thing I'd do is sent them to a schooler for a change of scenery. Best of luck Dermot

Best results are to tease your dog with a piece of steak then let the dog see you tie it to your drag then get him to chase with his muzzle on but go slowly with the drag

I saw a bloke do that at Devonport the dog still did not chase he reckoned it was the dearest steak he ever bought and we all had a good laugh. Cheers Ted.

Unfortunately JQ, I think you would find that either or all of the above is still not permissible in Australia under the current Racing Rules ... I kid you not!

Agree Ant Any kind of food reward from a Animal is now classed as live baiting Once you put a string on a BONE or a Steak this is now classed as LIVE BAITING .Life time ban and a huge fine .
Even giving your dog a gooddo after it has ran is classed as Live Baiting and will get you a life time ban
Once you put any form of animal product on any lure in VICTORIA AND SOME OTHER STATES it is ILLEGAL this also is classed as live baiting a Greyhound and this also is a life time ban and huge fines.
Des Dooley well known Greyhound man and book maker had a clean up of his property and the GRV Just happened to come around for a inspection and guesS what they found in his BIN A very Old small piece of a sheep skin he too has now been banned for life..
You can feed your dog a steak and you can feed your dog a rabbit you can feed your dog chicken wings and legs but as soon as you put a Rope or string on that piece of meat it is now classed as LIVE BAITING by the PTB .
Any animal product put on any type of LURE drag or track lure you will be banned for LIFE .
I even have heard of the PTB taking away Lures for further testing and they are trying to find BLOOD SALIVA and DNA from any animal on it .
SA allow your dog to sleep and use a sheep skin but VICTORIA and the GRV do not allow any sheep skins of any kind for sleeping or for a lure ..

Frank lives in Ireland, and what he can use is different there.

Hi Frank, a answer to your problem is to take your dog for a walk in the country and accidently let him go after a rabbit and see if he will chase it.I don't know what the laws are in your country are but maybe a fox skin with a squeaker in it might help get him interested in chasing

Frank, also make sure that the dog is sound, as if it has an injury, it will not chase 100%.

Even suggesting this can attract attention....and heart ache The use of live bait in this case rabbits is against the law in Ireland and the UK. Blooding is, in fact, an imprisonable offence. I would not suggested doing this accidently or not and you will then have to prove your innocence and this can take many years and 10s of thousands even hundreds of thousands of $$$$ to have your day in a court of law ..
This has happened to a lot of greyhound trainers in regards to Tooradin in Victoria and all of the so called live baiters PROVEN TO BE INNOCENT have not been compensated for the court costs and some are still going through the courts still today trying to prove their innocence ...

what if it is the plastic toy steak that you use to play with a pet dog? or if it is a rag with a drawing of a lamb cutlet on it? of even just the word steak written on the rag? pmsl
can't believe that trainers here have allowed the authorities to bring these stupid new rules in. they should get together and demand change.
hopefully Frank is allowed to use a sheepskin boot without ending up in jail, unlike here in australia.

Big difference Kevvy. One is a rabbit running freely with plenty of escape options. The other is a live rabbit tied down to a lure. Can't compare the two. But accidently letting a greyhound chase a rabbit in the wild will end up with broken hocks, torn muscles and probably lacerations to the face when the dog tries to get through the same fence as the bunny.
But there is the option of retiring the dog, giving it to an unregistered participant, go hunting for a few weeks, then bring it out of retirement.
Not that I condone having that much legal fun.

I agree how many pups have destroyed the old pair Moccasin over the years . South Australia is the only State within Australia that allows a old Sheep skin here in Victoria you get a life time ban after you have spent 50 years helping promote the industry . Des Dooley does not deserve the treatment he has been given by the GRV over a old lambs wool seat cover discovered in a bin ...
We all sit back watching when we should be as you say Simon out there DEMANDING CHANGE .

Hi Frank I agree with Dermot I tried everything with a little bitch even sent her to school didnt have any luck all she wanted to do was play about. Was told certain sires here are throwing non chasers. I rehomed her.
From my experience. The first time your dog shows signs of not chasing it, your in trouble. There are exceptions if course, but in vast majority of cases they will only break your heart.
