Ive Been rearing dog and bitch since 16 wks now turned 9 months the bitch looks like she's throwing her back left leg out and this morning I checked her over and shes feeling it she's not limping, what's best treatment for her,I'm not an experienced rearer.

Without seeing the pup it Would be difficult for anyone to advise treatment . Probably best to keep her restricted and on the lead only until you can get a proper Greyhound Savvy Vet to check her out. Avoid the quacks like the plague and see a proper Vet. However Greyhound Data does have an Ask the Vet service that is very good . You have to be a member and give accurate info about the issue though. Hopefully it is nothing serious .

Thomas
Stop her from running around and jumping, get her to a good greyhound vet and get her checked out.
Were are you in the uk.

Sharon I'm in Scotland there's no real greyhound vets, I travel to Tom peppercorn with my racedogs but with the lock down im stuck, running straight she looks great, it's when slowing down left leg is thrown out,I thought it might be a puppy thing.

As far as I am aware Vets are only treating Emergencies at the moment .I cannot confirm this because I haven't tried to get a Vet lately . However at 9 Months of age she has probably figured out how to gallop by now so keeping her quiet for a bit shouldn't do any harm. She might have just tweaked something hopefully. All or at least most pups can benefit from a bit of recovery time in any case . Also I agree with Sharon and for what its worth personally I would definitely keep her on the lead till either I was no longer worried or had her checked by a Vet. I live North of Aberdeen and use Gilmoor Vets in Durham for my Greyhounds mostly . Wouldn't dream going anywhere near the unqualified bone crackers.

It sound`s like she may have knee problem, it common with a lot of pups but you would think you would not herd of it, we had a couple of times.

Could be anything stifle/Hairline hock fracture/stood on a stone/groin strain a dozen other things ? you would need to be Clairvoyant to know from the info. Thomas a couple of the Shawfield track Vets are very good .

Pups are a very deceiving lot to tell what is wrong with them at an early age,They will limp as if their legs are falling off to-day and to-morrow they will show no signs at all,

Just do what nature does for a while ,let her run If it keeps up for say a week ,get her checked ,but most of the time it just goes away by itself,

Hi Thomas ,I would look at 2 areas the hip support and also around the monkey muscle in the right shoulder..Any one that checks dogs can look into those two areas
Cheers jack.

Jack my first thoughs was tfl or lower back out, with the country in lock down I can't get to muscle man, I've checked her over and can't find anything and she's bouncing that's why I've let her run in field by herself can't see lock down opening for a while and don't want her on a lead for months, I'll get her checked as soon as I can thanks
