Hello

How are you.
I did my 4 greyhound test. 2 of them were found to be infected with babesia
My greyhound room has no ticks. I don't know how they got sick.
I want to know what is the appropriate treatment and does it affect the greyhound in future races?

Thanks

Hi Ab,
I've never heard of this before but the following link may point you in the right direction for treatment.

It seems that ticks ARE the main cause of this so I would be double checking where they are housed and look carefully UP the walls and beams.
Also Ab, you may want to carefully check the places you run your dogs.
Ticks usually hang around the tips of branches and grass and latch on to whatever passes.

Poor dogs.
Hope they recover.

I HATE ticks with a passion.

Abdullah, quite a few years ago, we had a problem with one of our dogs. The haematocrit ( PCV ) reading would not come up, no matter what we did to improve it. After some further investigation, it was found that the dog had the same problem as your dog. It was treated with a product called Imizol. It worked well and the PCV improved soon after. Obviously it is not very common out here, and Imizol has a few side effects too, but it worked for our dog. There may be something better these days to treat the condition. It should hopefully not affect the dog's future racing career, but do check its blood again before he is back in work. Best of luck.
