my dog here seems to have some kind of upset stomach, just been sitting with him for a few hrs and his stomach was "growling" loudly and consently, had a few yougurt drops and "bikkies" there for him but he didn't want them, he was wanted to go outside to eat some grass, i let him for a minute but being paraniod about grass seed i stopped him and brought him back inside, i then got him a drink of "up n go" vanilla drink and syringed it down his throat (vanilla flavour) around 10-15 mins later his stomach stopped "growling" and almost "instantly" (within 2 minutes) he ate the yougurt drops then ate two biscuits, stomach hasnt "growled" since and he has let go a few stinking farts,

this is reoccuring and what i would like to know is, have any of you had similar problems ? and what kind of tests can/should i get done on him (xray?) (camera up the bum?) it seems to come out of the blue as he has been eating good the last few days but us usual we seem to be back to square one, i want to get some tests done and wondering where i should be "aiming at" with the tests.

I have the same problems mostly with my housepets (broods) especially whenever I change their kibble or the kibble/or meat, come in a different batch/bag.

My vet reckons it's just the change in protein levels that sets off the upset tummies.

Buy some charcoal tablets just in case, keep them on hand and whenever your dog get an 'upset' tummy, pop a couple of tablets down their throat daily for a few days.

If it doesn't work, then it's probably just the changes in the kibble/meat (even if you've been feeding the same kibble/meat, there are a lot of variance within the ingredients with each batch/bag) which can't be helped.

I haven't bothered with taking them to the vets to get tests as it seems to me that like us humans, we can have digestion problems occassionally.

How old is your dog? Sometimes age can also be a factor.

Adam, Slippery elm tablets are also good for upset stomachs. Does he have diarrhoea, too ?

Oh thanks, Carole, I was racking my brains trying to remember, yes, Slippery elm tablets is also another handy product to keep in the medicine cabinet.

Hi Lianne, We always keep a bottle of them handy, as they work very well for stomach upsets. Best wishes, Carole.

i have taken him off "winning edge platinum" and back to "steamed white rice" but that was a few weeks ago now, he seems to poo "solid" most times , i've been trying to "target" where this problem is for awhile now but i know believe its in his stomach or intestines, if he was "wheat intolerant" what symptoms would i see? as his "kibble/carbs" now are 80% rice with biscuits (wheat based) his meat is "gravy beef" lightly cooked each night , my thinking thought it isnt "wheat intolerance" as it doesnt happen after every "biscuit" .

if he did/does have a grass seed stuck somewhere in his stomach would/could it show these symptoms? and would a stomach xray show the seed? like i said i have no idea if it is grass seed but i am paraniod about them after hearing the stories.

Adam, Stop cooking the meat for him and try the slippery elm tablets. I would think that his diet is the problem, not a grass seed. Hills make a kibble like science diet for dogs with sensitive stomachs, in a small package, so that may be worth a try instead of the rice, and they also make dog biscuits called Treats, which don't have wheat in them. These things may be worth a try.

Adam, If he is very picky with his food, have you had a good look down his throat at his tonsils ? Never known healthy greyhounds to knock back any sort of meat for no reason.

Adam

If he wants to eat grass it's usually cos he's trying to make himself sick, it's thought that that's how dogs clear toxins so(never having had a problem with grass seeds except in ears) I always let mine munch away. I find they eat more grass at certain times of the year ...

They can have (like us) intolerances to all kind of things such as rice, chicken etc etc that most dogs are ok with. Have a look a EXTERNAL LINK which has lots of 'raw food' advice that might help.

Best wishes

Hey guys, wondering if anyone can help me, my hound has had an upset stomach for the past week or so, we tryed feeding pasta, as was advised by his old trainer and this seemed to help, however when we went back to his normal feed, he got diarrhea again, was just pure liquid, although he wasnt desperate to go out after eating and doesnt seem unwell in his self at all. He was 9 last october so dont kno if maybe its his age or not? and if he needs a feed for senior dogs? if anyones got any advice, please help. cheers!

First , make sure your dog dont have a object stuck into his stomac !

stop to feed your dog , he can survive easily at 3 day with out food !

and feed him like a dog , you are his first problem !!!

Cheers ! Paul

Arthur, the tablets and capsules are just as good. We have had them on hand for years, as they work quickly if there is a problem.
