Just to add to the above post.

It has been mentioned that greyhounds that race on an empty stomach will have more bile because of this.

It has been my experience that dogs race far better with a little bit of food in their system, because yes nervous excitement will increase the release of gastric acids, and this will no doubt make some feel sick enough because of an empty stomach, to actually bring up the contents of their stomach either before or after the run.

This in most instances will have a yellow/brown bile like appearance.

A good reason to ensure that a racedog gets a good substantial breakfast, or at least a small quantity of food about four to five hours before racing.

VIC
how about Trainers are only[ RATED as good as the dogs in their kennels] How about all the dogs out there with trainers that cant reach qualifing times to even race, and there is a lot of them.
The owner is very seldom told the dog has no foot, its usually hes got a inguary Its hard for some owners to understand the dog has no foot[speed], espicialy when hes out of the best money can buy.and you have paid for rearing and training not to mention the couple of grand you spent to bye him [truth a bitch]sometimes

Hi Shane, Totally agree with you. The saying goes that biling makes 3 things happen. It makes the dog sick, makes the trainer happy and makes no difference. Ble is produced every time a meal is eaten, and it is a much better idea to look carefully at the dog's diet to try to find why he may be producing too much bile, such as too much fat in the meals.

Totally agree. I worked for a trainer in the early 70's and a piece of washing soda was given routinely to the dogs. In my opinion it didn't make a scrap of difference to the dogs performance. Grass is what the dogs use and only when they feel they need it.
Having said that I do keep a bit of washing soda that I would use in an emergency if I needed to make a dog sick before getting it to a vet.
