Courtesy of Jack Ogilvie.... the black tar is Jacks 'special mix'that improves a dogs well being and gives a beautiful sheen to their coat..made up by and obtainable from Jack at little or no profit and highly reccomended

The near perfect diet (rocket fuel)

Evening meal meat kibble

Meat rough thumb of rule is 20grms per kilo dog weight . 30 kg dog 600grms meat.

Add 20 grams pork fat

Kibble approx 2 cups all dogs are different watch work and weight.

Feramo as per instructions.

Tea spoon safflower oil tea spoon flax seed oil

Juice for wetting in kibble.

Put 2lts water in pot ,cup barley, boil up till barley is soft separate barley and water. feed barley to you dogs.

To this water add a good hand full of spinach a hand full of parsley, a cup of celery Boil up in juice for 10 mins let cool down put in blender .put half a cup on your dogs food. Always put additives on feed when cooled down as heat can destroy some vitamins.

Breakfast

2 wheat bix or 2 slices rye or whole meal bread

Half a cup powdered milk

Tea spoon wheat germ

White e as prescribed

Calci d as prescribed

Put a egg into boiling water for 30 seconds then put in breakfast twice a week.

For 3 days prior to a race give half a tea spoon of non acidic ascorbic acid.

On empty stomach before working your dogs give one transfer factor cap, half a teaspoon 20 ig colostrum. mix up with a little water or milk use a plastic syringe to squirt in dogs mouth not down throat.

Let your dogs out into the emptying yards.

If you free gallop your dogs dont just put them out and go and make a cuppa watch there action it will tell you a lot about your dog. After galloping take them for a quick walk for 5 mins to cool down never put them straight back in kennels after a gallop. Feed breakfast. * You can use other additives like beta k as per instructions.

Or my black tar.

Many people have asked what to do before a race.

Dont change a lot but change a little.

Three things will kill you in this business, worms like hook that are blood suckers. Your dog not being 100% sound. and your dogs diet.

The 3 days before a race is very important.

Make sure your dogs blood is spot on if your dogs haemoglobin is down your dog will not perform to its full potential

Give your dog ironcylyn 5mls 3 days before a race in evening . you should be giving your dog ironclyn twice a week any way. start on two Re bound tablets. Remember your ascorbic acid in the morning. If you are only walking your dogs give a 200 mtr hand slip day 3 and day 2 eg racing Sat. Wed / Thur morning.

Thur night give your dog a hydro bath. give a good massage. rug up .feed Friday give a quick 15 min walk morning and night. Morning of race quick 10 min walk.

Feed as normal if racing at night.

After a race.

Give you favoured neutraliser.

Give your dog a mixture of half a banana

, one scoop of ice cream half a cup of milk. before leaving car park

Feed a sloppy feed like tripe and bread and milk.

Or a stew when you get home.

Next morning give a short walk for 15 mins .

Check your dog over when he/she has cooled down.. If ok, give a hydro bath and massage.

***** Transfer Factor*****
Give 2 days prior to racing,
1 Capsule morning and night.

THEN..
Give the same [morning and night]
for 2 days following a race /trial

THEN..go back to 1 capsule in the morning only

Had a contact re neutraliser after a race I agree with carols and other comments previous posts on forum. that you can use you favoured product but make sure it does not contain sodium citrate.I did not want to promote any product. But if you want to talk to me i can recommend one that will not cause problems.Beta k if your using I have heard reports to be carefull using this before a race.I dont want to mention the persons name but they have done many tests and found trainers who over use this product are not as well served as trainers who only use Beta k say after a race. For those who know me would know i believe in many natural products instead of the chemical company's who produce for the lazy trainer.I make this comment i would not promote using potasium products 3 days before a race.Follow my after race instructions .

Since posting of this diet i have received a number of different questions, these ones i wanted to share.Q how much glucose should i give my dog on the morning of a race.
A i would not give any in the morn as it builds up the dogs sugar levels and a bit more, but acts as a downer after a few hours. If you are in a early race say 1-3.Before kenneling put a tea spoon of glucose in gelatine capsules then put in the next biggest size again, stick down you dogs throat as you go to the kennels. You can only use for early races say the first hour and a bit.
Q is there any thing else Like ------- and =======that i have heard trainers use .A yes but i will not go on a forum or e mail and talk about these products,or i dont want to promote the chemical companies either.
Q What is Black Tar.A it is a product that i have devoloped in partnership with my daughter, and Aus leading homeopath.Secret ingrediants .like KFC

Jack, amazing as your feeding is so much the similar as I was taught in 1967.You are so correct as to use Vit.E. sepparate from other vitamins ,thus done in the morning meal.I was taught to also use "Fish Oil" and Olive Oil over their main meal also a sprinkle of garlic powder plus iodised salt.Race Morning, I differed a bit(also serious time trials),under the skin in the neck I injected 1 ML of multe V.B, with fOLIC ACID. My race day breakfast differed slightly being mostly meat (12 hours befor or longer),pre. kenneling they got a strong drink of vegimite and glucose water which they loved. They got the same after racing. Then normal quecks etc. They got a 1/2 loaf of wholegrain bread with a litre of whole milk warmed with a bit of honey.Honestly you can forget what I have added as I feel if trainers fed like you, well you and me would not win as many races. (P.S. jack you forgot the Dandilions boiled up and the syrup given for the ills we could not fix.) Paddy. ( I have only added my differances not as an alternative, but WHAT I did, also befor using what I have said, One should check with the racing Authorities.) Hope I may have added to future trainers cook book. paddy.

Jack, living in Tasmania I found replacing meat with the same amount of fish was great in keeping your racers at their peak,as in those days fish was far cheeper than meat. But, as indicated Twice a week ,if you can afford.? paddy

Woody, Jacko gets the Kudos for that diet, and it lacks nothing really, as if your dog couldn't run with that, well it probably isn't fast enough to begin with..Carole will help with the cramping for you if you ask her nicely...

Paddy,
I try to keep answers simple without getting to technical.Fish will not hurt your dog once in a while.dogs need meat for protien and the amino acids from that protien. Fish does not provide the type of amino acids our dogs need also other vits a minerals. As i said once in a while tripe ,stews, after a race is ok.

I thought the problem with fish was the lack of iron and the limitted amount of fat. The essential amino acids (the ones that the body doesn't manufacture itself) are found in both fish and beef. All of the others can be manufactured from other protiens, in theory as long as your dog got some meat and/or a very wide range of vegetables, legumes and fungus you could get all of the amino acids you need in the diet (this is not practical of course) so we feed beef (usually the most readily available meat, relatively high in protien, containing the essential amino acids, iron, adequate fat and other minerals). I would think if you were a long term feeder of fish and other white meats and you didn;t supplement with iron you;d end up with an anaemic dog (low RBC) and it associated problems.

Dean and Jack, I feel if you read my post, where I said I killed and used (sold some) 1 beast a week, it, I thought would have brought using "fish" into prospective, my racing dogs were lucky to one feed of "fish" a week, my pups being reared and my old dogs they got the fish ,the old dogs to stop arthritis and joint soreness. The pups loved what ever they got,and I made sure they got the best, they did not even eat the "Native Hens" they ran down and killed. If you know what a native hen is, you would know why they did not eat them, they are now called "turbo chooks" great for young pups as they raced fast and fairly strait.Jack my feeding was extreemly similar to yours but with differances that worked for me.I turn 65 Sunday, and am asked at least once a year to train someones dog, boy how I would love to ,with modern technology and training in the od ways ,feeding especially, I reckon it would be great and am not to far away from a decision.Brendon ,David told me that he could count on one hand, the number of good trainers in Tas. most he said are to lazy to get out of bed to let them out or walk them. They train by having big numbers etc. regards to all ,Paddy.

Brendon, You'll have the dogs takeing off soon with rocket fuel!!!!
No seriously I never knew how good a food is fed to the dogs these days. The food that was fed in the days of my involvement with greyhounds wasn't the food that you put out in your huge list.
It was bread, meat, gravy of sorts some dogs got raw mince eggs and milk but they were robust and healthy. now things have changed
drasticly. With the problems of injuries of the dogs you have to keep them fit and healthy Marion
