Michael,
The topics about food for racing greyounds,we've all offered opinions, but at the end of the day,you can feed them ground cockroaches if you like, and it's nobody else's business.
I feed one way,and I bet very, very few two people feed exactly the same way,yet plenty of various methods can bring success.
Feed them how you want to.

But red meat is a MUST !!!???

Yes red meat definatley is a must as the protein with the natural fats in my opinion are essential. Beef, Roo mixed with chicken or turkey are a must.

On the topics of kibble/dry food what are the brands people use and or recommend?

In my opinion, red meat is a must...IN MY OPINION.
You,however, and anyone else can ask for opinions and either heed the advice or ignore it,but at the end of the day,it's your choice what to feed...that was my point.

So sorry Miceal.......I BELIEVE....STRONGLY.....that red meat is a MUST!

Would you eat 100% processed foods yourself? I wouldn't.
Do you think that natural is better? I do.
Do you think that dogs are carnivores (meat eaters) with omnivore tendencies (occasionally eat vegetable matter)? I do.
Do you think that raw meat will lose nutrients or minerals when it gets processed? I do.

If you do decide that maybe dogs should be eating raw meat, here's a very good link on which meats are best for dogs. You'll notice the best ones are all red meats....

CLICK HERE
Finally, read the label of ANY kibble you can think of. The vast majority use "by-products". They hardly have any "real" meat in them at all.

If you think a high performance racing dog can perform at it's best on just kibble, then good luck. You're gonna need it!

This was the first quote you addressed Michael so my mistake for not recognising you were talking to someone else. My apologies Scott, and you are right I am not smart but very intelligent !!

You are entitled to your beliefs Mark, just wondered why you stated red meat is a MUST when it can easily be done without in a greyhounds diet. Feeding Kibble as you call it is alien to me, more into pure/natural sources of dietary requirements.
The list of meats I could have giving you 30 years ago. For roo see rabbit, we don't do roos here.Nothing better than tripe or raw mutton for pups. Fish when available fresh also excellent feed for racing greyhounds and common among top stud keepers here too.Turkey another excellent feed for nutrients and some of the top performers of recent years here have been fed on it.

Scott you are right.A combination of 2 parts red beef and 1 part mutton is a great combination.A good quality kibble around 14% protien with some good quality Natural suplements cant go wrong.Other good aditives are Chia,Colostrum,Spirulina,Calcium.

Sorry Jack, where does Scott recommend 2 to 1 red meat to mutton ? Don't forget the bananas for the potassium ! Stops them cramping.

hmmmmmmmmm nothing like a simple question to get people riled up. Just goes to show everyone has an opinion that they think is 100% right and can't respect the fact that others may disagree.

Scott, I give my dogs a variety of food including red meat, fish, veggies, pasta and rice as well as kibble. In my opinion the dogs seem a lot happier with variety.

Megan,I agree, but keep it fairly routine.
I tend to feed mine the same every day except after a race or trial...they get a treat and something easily woofed down.

I think routine feeding works well, and it also allows for you to try different methods if your greyhound isnt performing to your satisfaction, my dogs are fed to the weight, with the same weekly routine.

Fellas, unless you feed the dogs beer, can we stick to the topic as it has gone way off topic.

beer is more of a drink Ray, but a bottle of stout on the bread and beef is a good tonic when it comes to iron etc. Does give them wind though so be warned !!

Well,I do,so the debate continues lol.
A nice ale every now and again will flush the system out.

It's the best way to get them to take garlico too Scott and that does a great system clean out. Then again if you leave ale hanging about for 20 odd years it would clear the cylinders in the lawnmower aswell !!

My 40 kg greyhound used to have a splash of Carlton Draught. Susie the greyhound @ 13 years old doesn't mind a drop of pear & apple ciders.
