had one like that but it was before schooling....could never get him right... infact he wouldn't run the bend so he never made it to track but made it to a couch but then again I bet there were things I could have done but didn't have the knowledge or experience... but a lot said once the dog got it in the head to re act like that you were at nothing

Ask your vet about a fold up or flap over if it's a distal or further joint from the body. Fold ups keep the pad in tact but toe nail is gone.

This gives you a fantastic result .....Keeping half a toe with a pad on it still gives the foot integrity ...

The ligaments around that joint are probably stretched as well as the joint capsule so it will be a chronic problem. Your vet may want to fuse the joint also.

It has a slower healing time with this method but it is worth it .

Hi Mark..His toe had to be removed as he it was gone bone on bone with no cartilage and had chronic Arthritis in the joint....Nice condition to buy a Dog in along with an infection that caused him to drop from 76lbs to 62lbs but I have him back up to 76lbs now....great to see there is such honest sellers out there

Perhaps the seller just didnt know better.
Some dogs will recover to normal selves, others will always mind their toe, even though its been removed - phantom pains. Try a bit of swimming with the dog once its healed - good luck. Have tried various solutions, but no matter how good the vets were, none of my dogs ever returned even close to the stage they were, but good luck.

The first vet I took mine to he told me it was a waste of time .I went to another vet and got him to remove the toe thinking I would give the dog every chance as he was a big raw pup . i should have listened to the first one.

wish I had that advice from the start...

Paul was it apparent when you checked him out when you bought him??or circumstances didn't reveal it in time

Dave I bought him off the classified on here ....he was running around Lifford so was not in a position to check him out..We missed the toe problem as we were so concentrating on getting him healthy with the virus he had....It was so bad whatever he had he passed it on to me and my arm broke out in complete swollen rash and I had to be treated with steroid cream...I would hate to see the kennels he came from

Well Paul that. Sux really it just goes to show that the industry has more integrity issues then just racing... but to use a quote from a kennel keeper who thanks god daily ..this is greyhounds. That stuff happens. an unreal endorsement of the industry I hope you find away to let it be known who would sell you a dog like that

I used 3 different Vets to amputate toes from 3 different greyhounds and they were all a complete failure.Cannot really reccomend toe surgery in Ireland

There was a pup on here a couple of weeks ago for sale that had had a toe removed. The same dog is now up for syndication with no mention of the toe on the advert at all. How does that work? Mark
