Great news boys, I am very happy for you.
The best time I have ever had on a racetrack was that day at Bundaberg when us 3 Musketeer mates turned up incognito out of the blue and were treated to a fabulous day all round, good racing, good crowd, bouyant happy people and best of all...fabulous atmosphere.
Many thanks to all up there, especially you two Steve & Ricki, as well as all the committee.
Thank you John. It is what keeps Steve, Christine and I going. Very happy for this track. From shut down to TAB. They keptCairns very quite so we we couldnt help them. I believe for this reason. United we stand, this is an example. Will try and get up there to see you all in a month or so. Great work All involved in Bundy

Exciting times Brian, was over the track this morning doing some interviews and the place is a hive of activity, contractors everywhere. The club was also successful in receiving a $27K grant to upgrade kennel aircon, Gail Lidden our secretary is doing a great job managing people everywhere.

Only one more week until Bundy has its 1st TAB meeting. Here's hoping that this means they get plenty of nominations from near & far!!!

Massive congrats to Greg Kennedy on the win of Deep Emotion today at Bundy.
He's done a magnificent job to get her foot right after it was damaged in a heat of the Bundy Cup. Before today's win she was all at sea on a track that was stuffed.
Over the last two meetings, after much needed attention to the track, it has never looked better and the dogs are racing with more confidence. You can thank Greg Kennedy for that. I'd suggest he be given a life membership and free beer for the rest of his life. He had the guts to speak up and have RQ fix it! More importantly than all that, he deserves respect, because he spoke out over concern for his dogs, and everyone else's. Not one lost meeting and now the future of Bundy racing is more promising.
Great job, Greg.

I love my dogs racing on grass and they love it too. Its a pity or stupidly that we dont have more of them. Any injury stops dogs from racing, but a toe injury is better than a fractured hock.
Congratulations and thanks MG for noting his efforts because often it goes unnoticed.

It wasn't a toe, Mark...it was a pad and a bad one at that. Remarkable job to get her back so soon. There's a fine line with maintaining a circle grass track and hopefully they've now got it together and Bundy thrives.
You could not meet a more passionate Grey man than Greg, although it's bloody hard to get a word in sometimes! I'm sure he holds the Guinness book record for talking without a breath. Top bloke with his heart in the right place. Would make a great committee member.

I am wondering if the Bundy Club has ever considered say a '640m' start that could also accommodate a '300m' start. Being the only track in the region, having 4 different distances would be a real plus for trainers.

Track is being rejigged in September, led to believe 520, 420 and 300m starts, with 250/720 being kept as puppy boxes. Track being widened, new running rail and cambers seen to. That's what I've heard, distances approximate and don't know if the 460 to 420 ish rejig is in works for September.

Ok, thankyou. Don't like the idea of a 420m start. Be on a corner if I am right?

The Bundy Track upgrade will include ripping up the old grass and removing the outside fencing. New running rail and lure motor to be installed.
The track will be widened from the current 6m to 7m. New external fencing will be installed.
The camber on the track will be lazer levelled.......and new grass laid.
The 460m start will remain. The 550m start will be reduced to 531m (The 520m distance would be classed as a 'sprint' distance.....same as the 460m start......so no advantage for trainers to play the grades. This is why its to be 531m)
A new short course distance of 315 will be introduced. This decision is made by GQ.....not the Club Committee.
Its possible that we may have a 720m distance....but that is yet to be confirmed.
The current tower which is used by the Lure driver....Judge & Race caller will be replaced.
Queensland Greyhound Racing is in great hands.....and the future is assured.

Good news. Thank god the track is staying grass. As they are making sand tracks too hard. Alot easier to stuff up sand tracks.

Good luck to Bundaberg but I have some queries.
We are all aware that some trainers want to hold on to grass surfaces despite their poor economics and regular deterioration. Stalks and skidding on mud come to mind. Hard evidence please.
Evidence also needed to validate the thought that broken bones are more common on loam. Long term data needed, not just views from a couple of trainers who had bad experiences.
What is the reason for installing a 315m race for squibs? Having dogs that can't run any further is an excuse, not a reason.
Complaints about "hard" loam should be addressed as a maintenance issue, not dumped on a false principle. It's not hard to fix. I agree that it happens but are maintenance policies and procedures lacking? That's up to RQ.

Bruce, my point of view 315m races are ideal for older 'dogs' (masters races) as it can extend their careers. Regards to sand/loam tracks, as previously stated by Rob Britton the powers that be seem hell bent on fast (hard) tracks as in Victoria his concerns have fallen on deaf ears. I have contacted a fair few leading trainers & they all agree. It seems that fast times ie track records are a good advertising tool for marketing.

Bruce. No problems with slipping and sliding in the mud up here and if it does rain the water gets away fast enough . Everything grows fast so the grass issues down south in NSW and Vic is a concern but up here i dont think so
I do not think it is practical to turn Bundy to sand and there is no point trying to change somthing that has always worked . There is not a lot of trials so the track maintence would not come into play like down south . Bruce i agree withh 300 meter racing The 300 meter distance should carry half stake races because this is the only way you will stop people flooding tracks with 300 dogs to me there is nothing gained running or training a dog under 450 meters IMO
