For those who don't know of the dog, his owner Gail May named the dog* after the first modern-day Olympic marathon winner Spyridon Louis (1896), he would prove to aptly named as he was a marathon superstar himself under the tutelage of Lorraine Sams (and Ron Mills).
*the dog's kennel name was Mike after champion athlete Michael Johnson.

I was at the track and watched the great dog win the Marathon Race and break the track record on the English Derby night in 2007.
Westmead Lord won the English Derby that year.

Sandro,
Re Misty Anna I wasn't totally certain myself, but I believe she (the litter) was bred in Queensland.
I bet you had a great night at Wimbledon for the Derby, "the Derby roar" was part of the magic for me. As an aside, I wonder if we will ever see another marathon race run again in Australia, somehow I doubt it.

Ok. Sharpen that MASS between your ears.
Question.
I am a Sire.
I sired the FASTEST 457m MAIDEN winner around the now defunct Harold Park curcuit. Actually the 2 fastest Mdn winners.

Steve,
Must be Nation Parade then - Spanish Dance and Indian Light (Alan Pringle), both went 26.27 in their Qualifying Heats (March 1986). Spanish Dance won the Final in 26.46, with Indian Light being scratched.
When I stated The Smoother I was thinking about - Kim's Monaro and Dusty Rapid (Bob Doak)

Come on David. Maiden winner. Everybody from that era knows Quals don't count.
If Indian Light was scratched after winning a Mdn Qual, is he still a Maiden. Yes.
So my response to your answer is No.
We're looking for the sire of the fastest MAIDEN WINNER at the now deflunct Harold Park.
Clue. It was before 1986.
ps...Good guess though ;-)

Got to admit i'm struggling to think of fast maiden winners. Yes indeed Steven, those things of a past era "qualies", that's why I originally put forth The Smoother as the answer.
I recall November Lilly was a very fast maiden winner, but can't think of another really fast maiden winner at HP Ungwilla Lad threw, General Jeff only ran 26.41 when he won his maiden ...like I said struggling a tad.

Fair enough Dave
Yep the roar was well and truly on that night especially when Westmead Lord, the Hawks younger brother, jumped in front, the crowd was pumped to see if the family could land 3 English Derby winners in a row
Spiridon Louie's run in the Marathon was an absolute bottler, he stalked the leaders before he took off, in the last lap it actually looked like he accelerated away from the opposition (even though we know that's scientifically not correct)
He was a super strong dog
I probably owned the last true marathon dog in this country..
Lansvale Fire.. he held 5 x marathon distance records
To answer your question, I would say NO
Modern trainers are just not either built to train or don't give a rats about training a dog for that purpose anymore....its too much work for them to pour their energy and time into one dog
They would much rather put 8-10 dogs an hour through sprint lanes and race them over 270-450m ever 5 days or so
They collect plenty of starters fees that helps pay the bills and the cream comes when they win or place
Its a modern day business model for pro greyhound trainers and I guess that's the way its going to end up as especially in NSW that form of racing is now highly encouraged with short course money being on par with 500m+ money
