Could I ask anyone who has personal experience of the hardships created by the new system i.e. passports and Balai Certs to Email me on [email protected] Or text 086 8410855. I promise to bring these experiences to the attention of the Department , the igb and The Greyhound Group. The more information we have the better. I am not taking calls this evening as I am sitting beside an infrared lamp at present ( bitch whelping).Thanks.

Clare..i think the main problem with it all is having to register your premises and give your PPS number...
Hi Robert, Yes that is a big stumbling block . However I have spoken to a number of people who have crazy personal stories to tell re the new regulations. These need to be documented. Your help is required.
Have these regulations also been applied to horses

So have 2 dogs going over to England on Wednesday.
Passports, rabies and chip done last month.
Been in contact with Jim Hegarty at Cork Agri, Food & Marine - a very helpful man.
Scanned in all Passport info and emailed to him.
Vet inspected this afternoon (It's been a two man job so far!)
Visiting Jim at South Mall tomorrow to pick up Balai certs, taking at least 2 hours off work (that could be very costly if any work problems arise whilst I am out) then taking dogs to Mallow at 1pm in the afternoon, another 2 hours off work.
If all goes to plan and the dogs go over ok they will be running on BAGS for 30 run money a race LOL
If I have any work problems that I am unable to tend to because of picking up the Balai it could be the most expensive BAGS dogs on the track by the time I add up all the time and expense.
Jim at Cork Agri Dept not happy about this situation either "he has enough to do without all us greyhound men contacting him" his words. Can't fault him thus far he has been very helpful.
The one thing I am noticing is the stress this is creating for me personally, having to take time off work, running about all for a couple of BAGS dogs. I can see some wouldn't go to all this bother and would just have them put down.
In fact, made a decision only 1 pup a year from here on in, 4 are not worth the hassle. Very few buyers out there and when they do sell it's hassle to get them on the boat. It is supposed to be a hobby but is turning into a chore!
Thanks Richard. As you have said it is a LOT of hassle . And a greater cost. I just don't see why there is a need for these extremes. It is not practical and completely over- the-top bureaucracy. Until a sensible, practical solution is agreed the requirement for Re Balai Certs should be postponed with immediate effect. I know that everyone involved with greyhounds will stand together on this.

If they do Clare it will be the first time they have stood together.

It's for the survival of the game Dave. We are all dependent on each other. This will be sorted :)

Today members of the greyhound group commitee met with the IGB and ICC to discuss the impact of the Baili cert on the industry and there was consensus that it had to be addressed in its present format and are willing to meet with the dept of agriculture with us this week to see what can be done. We will be proposing self regulation through the IGB and ICC on the traceability of greyhounds travelling between Ireland and the UK giving huge savings to the dept while still adhering to the principles of the directive. We will update again once that meeting has occurred.
Fair play to all involved and hopefully some sensible, practiale solution can be sorted out....

To answer your question Bridget there are strict EU regs now for all live animal transport between EU sates. They differ between species depending on perceived risk of disease transfer etc. The transport of horses has recently been tightened up, after the horse meat scandal. Interestingly though there are exemptions for the likes of " Thoroughbred horses being moved for racing, breeding, training or moving to a sale" under the tripartite agreement (TPA) on the movement of horses between the United Kingdom, Ireland and France EXTERNAL LINK
It would give hope that a similar system could be put in place for registered Greyhounds travelling between the UK and Ireland. In fact it's a surprise we are this far down the line without a similar rule for stud book registered Greyhounds. Hopefully an agreement can be achieved with the relevant departments in Ireland & the UK, by the people working on this, on our behalf.
So once again greyhound racing is the 'slow cousin' of horse racing.
The management in charge of horse racing lobbied and put in place a solution to these regulations that protected their industries owners and breeders.
What were the management of greyhound racing doing when these regulations were doing the rounds in Leinster House / Dept. of Agriculture... planning the sale of Harolds Cross.

Haven't sold them, I sent them to England to race as they are not fast enough for Irish racing. Still needed a Balai even though they are not sold. Am hoping if they race a few months the English buyer might be interested in them when readvertised as they will already be over so no worries on Transport\Passports\Balai etc
But I won't be doing that again for a while, I have 2 pups left, I am having a rethink on buying pups altogether.

Well Richard, the pup u have with me wont need any of this hassle as long as he sails out of Belfast.. but when u decide to move him to England if he travels through southern ports he will need them
