Good work, shouldn't make it harder for people to bring dogs over here from Ireland, they should be subject to the same considerations as racehorses. Hopefully someone will see sense....

The Greyhound Group are asking all those with a vested interest in the greyhound industry in the Uk to contact their MPs to ask Defra
To seek a derogation of the EU regulation relating to the movement of greyhounds between the two islands on the basis that they are deemed an epidemiological unit. We can show that the regulation is causing unnecessary expense on member states and it's citizens with the duplication of paperwork and health checks and constitutes a barrier to trade. We acknowledge the enormous task the commission has in regulating disease control measures for 400 million citizens and their animals but believe that movement between two disease free islands poses no health risk and that our resources would be better spent safeguarding our ports from the continent. We also show that traceability already exists and is regulated by the Icc/Igb and Gbgb. There is also political support to improve the situation on the Irish side and a joint application to the commission would be desirable. We look forward to working with our partners in the UK to improve and sustain our industry.

The Greyhound Group met on Tuesday June 30th to discuss the current situation in relation to the Balai cert.We heard that the Department of Agriculture have been in contact with veterinary practices seeking ways to simplify the process but nothing is in place yet. We are waiting to hear from the IGB whom are to hold talks with their counterparts in the UK. We have also lodged an application with the EU commission through the regulatory fitness and performance programme seeking a derogation from the regulation. We have specified our reasons and have shown how the regulation is causing unnecessary expense on the dept of Agriculture the greyhound owner and the industry as a whole. We have shown where paperwork is being duplicated our carbon footprint is being increased and how the regulation has become a barrier to trade between the two islands. They replied to our application that their team are looking at it and will be in contact soon. We shall update as soon as we hear back. Thank you

Today members of the Greyhound Group committee met with Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney. Present were Jimmy Barry Murphy, John Lenihan ,Sean Bourke and Patrick Dalton. Minister Coveney clarified the day to day responsibilities for the industry lie with Minister Hayes but he is happy to help in any way. We discussed the negative impact of the regulations on transporting greyhounds to the UK especially the Baili cert and the duplication of paperwork and how it was affecting trade between the two countries. We inquired from the minister if a derogation was possible similar to the thorough bred industry. We demonstrated that traceability already existed in both countries and there may be a way through the EU Refit programme. He said he would look in to the issue and understood the difficulties it was causing, however the Minister said that the solutions are not straight forward. We spoke about Turf TV and how it had the potential to deliver a new revenue stream to the industry and said he would monitor its progress. Prize money and the greyhound fund were discussed and he hoped to be able to do more and understood the link between prize money breeding figures and track attendance and while he wished to do more in that area he was constrained by the financial position of the industry. The Minister will speak to Minister Hayes and the Board regarding prize money but stressed that the Indecon recommendations will need to be implemented. He said he was committed to improving testing methods and that the integrity of racing was a priority for him. He said that new board members would sought in the near future and a new process would be used in their selection and that stakeholders would have a mechanism to express their views. The Greyhound Group would like to thank the minister for the opportunity to raise these concerns and to Jimmy Barry Murphy for his assistance and input.

Lots of talking shops going on but nothing being done! Actions speaks volumes over words!!! To date the new CEO and Head of Regulations have fallen very short of expectations, was this addressed along with the serious matter of the IGB curtailing the advertisement and promotion of Irish racing world wide? talk about cutting of your nose in spite of your face.

GREYHOUND GROUP FORMED

At a Public Meeting in the Horse And Jockey last night, a 14 strong Committee was formed to represent the Industry. The primary issue is the problem regarding the Transporting of Greyhounds to the UK. Over 100 people attended the meeting and it was unanimously agreed that changes need to be made making it easier to transport the greyhounds. The committee will liaise with the IGB, ICC and Dept of Agriculture. It is hoped to get a meeting with the Dept early next week as a matter of urgency to see if alterations can be made to the rules.
The committee comprises Owners, Breeders, Trainers, Stud Keepers and Greyhound Transporters.
The new Committee is to be called "THE GREYHOUND GROUP"

Submission to Minster Doyle and IGB by the Greyhound Group at the Forum Nov 10 2016.
The Greyhound Group were represented by Patrick Dalton and John Linehan.

We would firstly like to take this opportunity to welcome Minister Doyle to the greyhound industry and wish him the best in this position. As with most industries we have experienced some difficult years with the downturn and the economic crisis. From a greyhound prospective we have seen most of our figures drop 50% from breeding to owners to prize money, tote handle and track attendance. We see a great opportunity in 2017 of reversing those trends and we have come to the conclusion that small measures will not have the desired effect. Prize money is the key to the industry and we believe that it has a domino effect on all the areas previously mentioned. We need confidence that the amount of the fund allocated towards prize money is not a fluctuating figure that owners can breed and invest with certainty as it can take up to two years for a dog to make the racetrack. We are seeking 50% of the 2017 fund be allocated to prize money as it will deliver the greatest return to the economy. We seek that it be put in legislation that 50% of the fund be ring-fenced for prize money annually. This will leave 8 million plus track incomes to run the industry. This would be a big move but a game changer is what is needed. We believe all the figures would rise quickly but if the 50% left to run the industry was found to be insufficient then we propose the leasing of tracks and the concessions to private enterprise. We have a chance to reverse the decline but it will require courageous action by the Minster the CEO and the board and we have no doubt these measures would have the backing of stakeholders. We thank you for this opportunity at the forum. The Greyhound Group.

If your group thinks the minister will bend over to assist you, then you have no idea what is going on, after Andrew Doyle and his committee made strong recommendations which he said must be implemented now there is no mention of any recommendations being implemented only he has done a u turn and stuck his 2 fingers up at the stakeholders, ministers my -ss

Very good, Clare, Patrick and John. No doubt there will be plenty of knockers and naysayers, but there are some of us who appreciate your efforts on behalf of the game. Thank You.
