Don you seriously have no idea, if you think I am whinging about your disgraceful track design cause my dog ran 7th you are sadly mistaken. For me it's all about dog safety and making sure at the end of the nite you can take your pups home. After watching most races from your venue and now racing there I will never take another dog back there. Maybe instead of bagging everyone you should prob take note of what they are saying and why so many trainers refuse to race there and do something constructive about it.

Isn't this track based on Richmond?

Mark I do think you're a whinger. That happens sometimes when your dog doesn't do well. I get that. Now you say that it's all about track safety and making sure you can take your dog home. So I must ask you was your dog injured and/or did you get to take it home? You say that after watching most races at Traralgon and now racing there "I will never take another dog back there". If you already reasoned that the track was unsafe before you raced there why did you enter your dog in a race. Most owners I know would not be impressed with a trainer who willingly raced their dog at a track that the trainer perceived to be unsafe! As for "why so many trainers refuse to race there" well guess what, Traralgon are bucking the trend and have more nominations than any other VIC track.

That's what they wanted to achieve but nothing like it Rob.

Looked unsafe as I said watching but i prefer to make a judgement after being there in person myself, should have gone with what I saw and stayed away from the joint. As I said to one of the owners half way through the night " I'll be happy just to get out of here safely " my fault I've already had a city winning bitch I bred break down there and now retired. P.s how many noms did you get for your cup?

This reply was not appropriate from a club president on a public forum when the industry we're all involved with is suffering at the moment.. Very poor form!

Hi Rob,
Yes track is based on Richmond with winning post brought back by 5 metres. It is a two turn track with five distances comprising 315m, 395m, 525m, 595m and 665m. When the track was designed we were keen to offer as many race distances as possible. The primary and cup distance is the 525m which offers a long straight run to the first turn. Radius on turns is substantial compared to other two turn tracks. I think it would be fair to suggest that we always envisaged that the 395m corner start would be the distance that suffered the most interference and this has proven to be the case. The Club will continue to monitor this and has noticed less interference in recent weeks. Interestingly, week in and week out the 395m attracts the most nominations.

Couldn't agree more.
And as trainer for Marks bitch when she was racing in SA, I can honestly say that the welfare of the bitch was always Marks first concern. You want to wear the label, sometimes you need to cop the criticism, even if you think it is unfair.

Sorry Jamie but I'm not one to cop the criticism, especially when I think it is unfair. As for John I would agree that the industry is suffering at the moment and it doesn't help when whingers keep ridiculing all aspects of the sport to suit their own agendas.

Don, it just seems that your reply to Marks criticism was a little 'un-Presidential'
Defend your turf of course, but you chose to pick out the dogs form as a defence. Not sure that's the right way for a club president to react. Other than that, good luck into the future.

What sort of lights are they using on these new tracks?

After today's events at Traralgon you could only hope they decide to finally rip this track up and start all over again!
Wouldn't mind hearing Don's thoughts if he was around?

Dont think thats the issue Ian but time will tell. No sprinklers turned on at all and track flooded, theyve been working on it and were doing so from 6 this morning Maybe built on an underground spring, what a shame that would be

Lets see how long it takes for GRV to actually tell the truth about what it is and how long they have known about it and how much to fix, on a track that cost 8 million. The Pakula pansies strike again. A vote for Labor is a vote for the Greens remember that come November 24 or greyhound racing will go down a sink hole!

Charles,
I agree that putting the blame on "drainage issues" is a pretty weak way of explaining the problem. Sadly, it is par for the course with most clubs and authorities. But on to more vital matters.
The (Presidents?) implication that Traralgon must be OK because it is based on Richmond is a frying pan and fire claim. Richmond has two very poor starts; one (400m) is diabolical while the other (618m) bend start still promotes early interference. Partly due to the former, the 535m first turn is flat as a pancake, which means many runners are thrown to the outside, thereby interfering with runners from 5, 6, 7, 8 (as illustrated in winning box data or by using your eyes).
These problems are present even though some $0.7m was spent overhauling the track a few years ago.
Traralgon was then created with three bend starts (395m, 595m, 665m). The standard radius of 52m is possibly reasonable but it tells us only half the story. No info is available on gradients or camber but they must be at least partly responsible for the fairly high rate of falls, particularly when taken in conjunction with the location of the starts.
Every Victorian construction job over the past few years has either introduced track problems or has allowed existing problems to continue (Sale, Ballarat, Warrnambool, Shepparton, Bendigo and Geelong primarily over middle distance trips) so GRV expertise is suspect anyway. Cranbourne, which has two poor turns, is under consideration as we speak. In contrast, the horrible bend starts in town are not apparently!
Drainage and water are different subjects and nothing to do with the above.
