The club has made a lot of recent additions for the comfort of the greyhounds at the Mount. The insulation of the kennel block along with an overhaul of the air-conditioning has ensured cool and comfortable kennelling. The club is also suppling ice vests in the catching area after each race on hot days. The track now has an automated watering system that should make for safe consistent race surfaces. The needs of the owners and trainers are also well catered for. The food is first rate, freshly cooked and served with a smile. I can recommend the steak sandwiches and the hot dogs. If you have never been to The Mount or it's awhile since you've been there give yourself and your dogs a treat and make the trip.

Heading down to the Mount this Sunday and I cant wait to rip into one of those steak sangas Peter. Most of the family will come across from Warrnambool and Port Fairy for the day so that's the main reason for the trip, catch up with my little Nan who is 91, and see if we can pay for the petrol by bringing 4 dogs with us. Ive only ever been there once with 1 dog and had no problem getting a catcher then. Can anyone tell me how I will go on Sunday? I've also got 2 in the same race so will be looking for someone to help in that race. I pay in cash and liquid..... Can you catch your own dogs in the 400?
Anyway, really looking forward to the day.

Jamie, Good to see you are making the trip to The Mount. I'm sure you will enjoy the day. You will have no trouble getting help from any of the regulars. You generally don't have to pay for help, most just return the favor or a frothy won't go astray. No, you can't catch your own dog from the 400. The follow on lure finishes near the distance boxes. John or I would only be too happy to help out if needed. I'll keep an eye out for you. Have a safe trip over.

Thanks Peter, really looking forward to it.
I'll be easy to spot. Its a Tarago with tinted windows and an 1860s trailer, there will be bits of kangaroo hanging off the nudge bar and probably a busted headlight. And me and Mrs.Q will be screaming at each other because she wanted to turn around at Horsham and I responded by putting the foot down and turning the music up.
God help me if none of the doggies run a place. Looooong trip home.
It was never gonna be easy mate but the dogs are all fine and I got to see my little Nan, a couple of Uncles, an Aunty, a Cousin and of course my Mum and Step Dad. And that was the first day my wife and I have spent all day together for almost 2 years so I would do it all again no probs. Before I give my critique on the steak sanga I want to say a huge thanks to Peter Franklin and John Gale (a 3rd Uncle) for helping me out and all the others who were just genuinely friendly and happy. Apparently the Mt.Gambier meetings receive something like 140 noms every time and there is talk of adding a meeting in the coming months. That would be huge and it's no surprise given the strong position of greyhound racing in South Australia.
Now the steak sanga. The meat was top class, easy to seperate with the fangs without the need to tear it away from your face with both hands. It came with bacon, egg and cheese which wasn't expected, a healthy slapping of BBQ sauce, lettuce and onions. The egg was perfect, not runny, not rubbery, the cheese was melted just right, but I will take a point off for the bacon because unless it's burnt to a crisp, I wont eat it. And I'm taking another point off because it wasn't cut in half. But all in all, a classic Aussie steak sanga so I'm giving 8/10.
Maybe if one of my dogs got any closer than 20 lengths I could be more generous but I'll definitely go back to the Mount every 6 months or so to see the family and take a Tarago full of hounds with me.
By the way, Peter, I'm a member there now so if I ever win the meat raffle, you and Uncle John can split it.

I seen u had a winner there yesty. The 731 heats be interesting. Good to see afew from Vic head over. Should be a good night. Distance and sprints look to be ripper races. Maybe start a thread up for them Jamie lol I'm not too good with computers
Yeah but I backed his Sister. The boy sort of pushed them all out of his way and took out most of the field, including the one my ticket was on. One more win in Vic and I'll bring him to APK. I thought there might have been a few more noms for the distance series, good money there. I've been wanting to get my bloke out to 731 for a while but he just kept having little niggly injuries. Fine this week though so we'll have a crack. Nah I'm not starting a thread up, rather keep it quiet mate. Don't want too many Porrentruys turning up.....
