Sandro I agree it is time to reopen W/Park and all the other tracks and allow another person and the trainer to attend the tracks .Now is the time for GRNSW to come clean with which tracks are staying and which tracks are going so we can all move on and no the path ahead .

At least if its not Wentworth Park, one track should be nominated as the City Venue and all city grading and prizemoney applies to those meetings

I just sent the following email off to GRNSW for the `Q and A' segment.

Hi Tony,

A few weeks ago, you made mention of how betting turnover was down by about 50% from normal estimates. What is the current financial situation? Also, it's legislated that we have to pay all GWIC bills, but have you made any contact with them to see what they are doing to reducing their costs? I'm still seeing three (3) stewards at meetings when we only used to have one or two. Even the NRL is considering reducing two referees down to one for their future games.

I received an email back from GRNSW's CEO, Mr Tony Mestrov. I hope to briefly summarise what was in the email as best as I can. Tony stated that we were down about 50% a few weeks ago and since then betting turnover has fluctuated on a weekly basis, both on TAB and Corporates. Therefore, it's best to gauge the impact over three months. He further stated that it would be a matter for GWIC to discuss anything relating to their organisation.

Thank you Tony.

How about transparency-you didn't get an answer to your question regarding how turnover is now.He could have quoted the figures He knew the percentage figures a few weeks ago so he knows them now but does not want to reveal them.

He just does as the Premier directs because he works for a Govt. body-He doesn't have much choice if he wants to keep his job.

We must call for a non government commercial body that will look after our Industries interests.

This is a democracy but we are being ruled by a dictatorship with puppets doing their bidding paid out of what should be our prize money with the Govt still taking their % of all betting up front as has always been the case.

I sent an email off to the CEO of GWIC, Ms Judy Lind. Surprisingly, she replied straight away. Thank you Judy. Again, I'll summarise the main point about stewards and cost to operate GWIC. Mr Ray Murrihy is conducting a review of stewards' duties and operations. Ms Lind sent out a newsletter recently about some misconceptions of GWIC. I'll try and copy and add it here.

EXTERNAL LINK

Ms Lind did ask how many stewards are appropriate. Well, of course I stated no more than two, unless there are exceptional circumstances... She stated that non-TAB only has one steward (now). Well, I told her that I hadn't been to non-TAB for about 12 months, but they regularly had two there more than 12 months ago.

Thank you Judy

P.S. I sent two emails off two Ms Lind over twelve months ago and I received no reply so she stated that she would try and find them. I kept them and resent them this morning. One was thanking the steward who after two massive showers and power outage at the Wauchope Track (over 12 months ago), never panicked and allowed racing to go ahead, without further incident. Had it been `another' steward, more than likely, it would have been abandoned. The other was about cost saving measures.

Taree, NSW will have two race meetings in June, 3rd and 17th. The first is listed on the calendar as being Country (non-TAB) and the second one listed as Provincial.

I was told the other day that both meetings will carry Provincial prize money. Has anyone heard anything to confirm what I heard around the traps? Has there been any work done to the track e.g. bends or conversion from grass to loam? I asked the latter question via email to the CEO of GRNSW, but waiting on an answer.

Thanking you in advance.

Id say the first meet would be to double check all, broadcast equip, may have to have a trial run ?? Trialling is back on Sundays again so that's a plus for people, Bob Glover

I was wondering if Big Tony had noticed the boxing process of dogs in NZ? Well, it's normal i.e. two lines - odds and evens. Why can't he take a leaf out of Peter V'Landys book and make more of his own decisions, based on what is best for the PARTICIPANTS & DOGS? Some jockeys and barrier attendants are close to each other, but its only for a few seconds. The same with dogs being placed into the boxes.

Did you notice, that the promised "City" P/M has been allocated in the Nth. Rivers to Grafton & Lismore? Poor Casino has been left on the shelf AGAIN. They should have been the first Club in the Rivers to receive this extra p/m as they have been excluded from racing during this zone schmozzle. It will only last the two meetings so I'm guessing Casino will miss out.

Is GRNSW considering closing down Casino?

How many PARTICIPANTS over the 3 racing codes, have TESTED POSITIVE to COVID-19? Zero, none. no one that I am aware.

Happy Punting and Safe Racing

Hi Grant
I think you will find that the horses come under a business act of parliament, and the dogs and trots are under the public service act of parliament. That being the case it would be a battle to change.
I agree we need wealth creators not public service budget blowers.

Gavin,

All three codes operate under an Act, or Acts, of Parliament.

Parliament may change those at any time as they did, for example, after the Reform Panel signed off on its report or after the McHugh Commission.

That's the theory anyway.

GWIC is averaging three stewards at meetings. They don't need three. Two yes, but not three. However, GWIC has re-introduced the `bunker' system so there is someone in the office watching races and two at the track (at some tracks). The Stewards Report will depict who's in the `bunker' by a (b) next to his/her name. Make sure you check which steward is at the track that you are racing. Also Ray Murrihy needs to complete his review of stewards and their duties.

Did I hear right that Armidale, Moree, Mudgee and Cowra closed forever? Cowra is old news.
