It's blatantly obvious that the government (led by the thoroughbred lobby, V'landys etc) have done a job on the greyhound industry. The ICA and tax parity have been a money grab by the horses. It's always the money trail that tells the story. If this hasn't been a stich up and collusion between V'landys and the NSW government, I'll go hopping to hell.

Stop betting on greyhounds with the TAB. There are other options available which result in a better return per dollar bet. Turn the 20 into 10 and be happy with 13? The horses seem to be pushing for that anyway, concentrate on putting the industry into a stronger position outside the intercode? We have to help ourselves because anyone else in a position to do so won't.

Sandro,
The government is wrong to shackle the industry when it has clearly out-performed the other two codes in TAB Turnover. I have given my support to the JWG with a degree of caution because they have an agenda that doesn't include correcting the ICA n that tax harmonisation tax reduction piece of legislation that are unfair. Do you think it's fair ?

There is nothing wrong with debating subjects when clearly there is something wrong. I don't call it whinging. You might, but I don't.

Of course I don't think it is fair.

The ICA is over, so forget about it.

The tax parity, I don;t know if there are review mechanisms in place or not.

I hope so.

That's not the issue with the JWG.

I give them my full support because they are charged with the responsibility of directing the future of this sport in NSW with the resources they have available to them.

Hopfully, they can make their decisions independently for the good of the industry here rather than pandering to certain clubs and minority groups, who keep putting their hand out without any tangible return to the industry.

Sandro,
The ICA is a live document which can be changed by government, but that's unlikely to happen and now the new piece of legislation. When does it stop ?
.
I hope that there is a reviewable mechanism incorporated into the JWG decision because only hoping they get it right falls short of giving them full support. I don't know the majority of them.
.
Allen,
That could be a way.

The only thing we hear is welfare for the greyhound code. The horses are only interested in matching Victorias prize money. Who is paying for all the reform to the greyhound code? A new position, a new review, a new study every week. I have nothing against any of this if the monies came from the share that we create. But it seems all this reform is to be paid by greyhound participants back pockets. Don't hear a thing about the horses having to have less prize money or paying for more staff and welfare, just prize money to match Victoria. It's out and out theft from greyhound participants to fund the horse industry's grand vision.

That's a defeatist attitude, lol. We have about 80 more years of life in it. I'll agree to disagree.

Call it what you will Mark, but you are flogging a dead horse, pardon the pun. The thoroughbreds and harness will never give up their rights and will sue us into of oblivion if we were to try it on.

If the tax parity is an example of the NSW government backing our sport then we would have no hope in this folly

Ripley comment

"Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) will amend its policy on lures by prohibiting the use of tanned and professionally processed animal skins for the purposes of trialling or educating greyhounds..."

"This move comes following the release of Working Dog Alliance Australias landmark report on best practice rearing,..."

"In amending its policy on lures, GRNSW also gave consideration to the Working Dog Alliances finding that animal-derived products had no impact whatsoever on a greyhounds ability to chase."

Uhhh ??? This logic beggars belief. Then why ban them ?

Tom,
You're right. It's not a paradox, but a contradiction. It was either a Monday morning special or a Friday afternoon classic ! Some of them sneak through.

I'd like to have conversations with the following people on a regular basis to see if we can collectively help industry participants with the massive number of changes that have occurred and will continue to occur, within the industry. It appears that these changes are within larger issues that will ultimately reduce the industry size when some indicators suggest that our industry should be growing.
.
I'd like to have conversations with the following persons because they seem to have sound knowledge of where we have been, where we are now and where we should be next year, in five years time and beyond. I've restricted it to about twelve, but more can join if it is warranted or required. It is not an elitist group, nor a boys club and one can decline or accept. In no particular order, they are:

Steve Bennie, Jack Gatty, Steve Harvey, Joe Baldacchino, Rod Hampton, Grant Dunphy, Sandro Bechini, Garry Comans, Glen Hatton, Chris van Vegchel, Sandra Giles, or any other persons, male or female.
.
We could be supported by other States and Territories as we go.
.
Some of the issues I have collated for discussion are:

ICA
Tax Harmonisation
Prize money
Grading
Rules - old and new
Race Scheduling across the State
Wentworth Park
Vets
Stewards
Swabbing - blood and urine
Welfare
Race track maintenance and design
Participant Support
GAP
Pet Motel
Administration Costs
Track ownership
Breeding - AI / Natural
Rearing
Wastage
and any others.
.
Discussions on these issues have been made, but we need to fine-tune and present our arguments to GRNSW as it is our regulator not our leader, but we need to consult with it on every issue that is important. The masses will be advised. Don't be disappointed or annoyed if your name is not on the list. It's not personal.
.
If it doesn't proceed past this point, I understand and no hard feelings. At least we tried.

.
While GRNSW goes through their cleansing process, do you think they have covered some of the issues on the above list ?

Another million dollars to be pumped into the Pet Motel that apparently 'we' own ! That's over $2 million dollars ! Could have bought acreage out west n let all of their experiments take place with their hundreds of dogs for GAP.
.
I heard on the grape-vine the colonel has been telling all how good he was. Baaaaa !

Mark the major issues affecting nsw racing are and always has been since Peter Mossman past away are the people at the top on the big money.
The $2 million for the pet motel has come from prize money same as RSPCA,AA,VETS, who in IMO do not have any idea about the racing greyhound and should stick to POODLE'S, PUSSY CAT'S AND BROWN SNAKE'S.
I truly think that MR HEWSON will be the man remembered as the man who killed the greyhound in NSW.

Why spend millions on an industry (out west) that will be closed in 5 years.

It's easier to simply give the money to a leech....then there's no cleaning up to do when it's all gone.

The previous CEO should've waited until after the first enquiry before purchasing the Pet Motel, but he purchased it during the enquiry. The problem became much bigger than he expected so now another $ million dollars has to be forked out to pay for the program that they wish to expand from 30 dogs to a larger number ?
.
The Pet Motel is trading as a profit, but I believe that $ 1 to 2 million dollars could've bought a very big establishment out west with many, many `dog runs'.
.
Is it something they have to do ?
