Thats the shame of it it Anthony - we are resorting to words or the need for fight back. The participants are not the enemy.

Had they approached reform in "genuine" in consultation with the participants all this pent up anger and resultant division between the administrators and the participants would not have occurred.

True leadership is not about making decisions - that is the easy part - the hard part is understanding the down streams impacts ,the good and risky outcomes. Presently Administrators are being hood winked into seeing what they believe will be good for the Industry , through the eyes of those they looking to appease - AA , Politicians,Academia and a deemed public anger. On the later I move in some broad circles ,including the inner city latte group - when I speak of the changes being introduction the Industry the general response is "who is taking these people on - that is crazy" or "Bloody Activists trying to run every bodies lives"

Lol Nicholas - I've got the same reactions. I know a lot of dog people, show and obedience and when I tell them some of the rule changes they refuse to believe me. I have to bring the rules up on my phone to prove it. These are dog loving breeders who I have known for decades and they shake their heads and say things like 'good luck getting a dog interested in doing anything under those rules' or 'who's making this stuff up? There definitely trying to ruin the breed'

The people making these decisions are the same people that have brought this country to the state it's in at the moment and looking likely t get worse,[ Don't smack the kids don't light up a cigarette, don't punish any of the ferral idiots we got going around night after night causing horrible injuries to innocent bystanders, don't punish drug dealers, don't lock up certain people inciting horrible things one should do to Australians, and the list is mind boggling, and you ask why or who is coming up with these bloody ideas, it's out there for all of us to see .

Some wonderful posts - full of passion - on this page in particular.

The winds of change ARE starting to blow (& in the polar-opposite direction to most of the past year).

There WILL be Legal action; both individual AND I'm strongly tipping, collective.

There WILL be challenges to the ludicrous, officious, over- zealous rules; particularly where there is no foundation within the federal laws of the land.

We WILL survive; not only that, but I truly believe (largely courtesy of the above) we will again one day thrive and flourish .

Make no mistake; there still is massive strength and resolve left (in some).

There are several ways that the attempts to stifle and ' choke' breeding & growth can (& WILL) be counter- attacked.

As frustrating as all this has been, the fightback IS coming.

Sure, it's going to be a long game & it'll sorely test participant's patience & resolve along the way; but we all realize it's a battle we must see through to the end.

So is this definitely happening, legal action, can you give us a hint, or just what you think will happen?? Do you know whats happened with the Canberra Club taking legal action against RSPCA etc.Personly I think, this may be the case to set a precedence for the rest of us.Nothing will ever change the current situation we are in except for "LEGAL ACTION".Words are cheap, until we get them in court to expose all the lies, we are doomed. Im 100% sure if we got this to court, we could easily expose them for being incompetant at there jobs, and for ruining the industry, based on non factual reasons!

Yesterday I heard from the Hunter Express that we might have a new CEO pending. Has anyone heard the same ? His background is thoroughbreds n harness.
.
Can anyone tell me if the leader of the NP has been to a greyhound meeting lately ? Especially, the Golden Easter Egg Final Night ? What about his representative ?

Oh that would be right - put a horse person in to twist the knife even further. Ensure any decision favors the gg'S even more. I don't know how it would be possible to steal anymore from the dogs but this would ensure that we stopped taking anymore market share. I might be being a bit cynical but don't trust the government who is blatantly looking after the horse codes interests.

I had a respectful chat on the telephone with a fella from GRNSW about Pathways races. I asked for an explanation as to why the Pathways races had no reserves and he explained that the reserves would have more points than the first eight drawn that had the eight lowest points.
.
It had me thinking about normal races where the opposite occurs with reserve dogs, in that generally, they have fewer points than the eight in the race, yet are allowed to be drawn. Therefore, they are at a disadvantage when they obtain a start after a scratching.
.
So, why aren't the next two lowest point scorers allowed to become reserves in Pathways, especially when one of the `first' eight is scratched ? The process should be reciprocated as it allows two more dogs a chance to race instead of sitting in their kennels. I am writing about dogs that might be one or two points higher up the scale than the eight lowest point scorers. A side point is when there is a scratching with no reserves, there is `no third dividend' so turnover is affected somewhat.
.
I really don't think there is a massive advantage if a reserve dog with a couple of more points gets a start when the same occurs with dogs with fewer points, have to enter a race against dogs with higher points. There are races proposed every week such as, 2-6 wins so, there is an immediate disadvantage. Then, they have to deal with the box they are offered after the scratching.
.
Come on GRNSW, think a little bit more laterally and make some amendments in the grading or policy department. After-all, it is about racing the dogs as opposed to keeping them at home. You are all about the dog's welfare and its longevity in the industry so without doubt, grading is extremely important in the scheme of things. It's not the first time grading has been mentioned so I'm not the only one discussing this important issue.

It's pretty obvious that they don't want to grow the industry and entice new people into it

They drive people out of the industry with an encyclopaedia of rules and regulations that you need a science and a law degree to understand and if that's not insulting enough, every cost associated with breeding, registering or racing a dog has doubled or in some cases tripled, without any corresponding increase in prize money or racing opportunities

They wait for the older people to retire or become frustrated enough to leave when they can't enjoy their hobby; when they eventually drop off it gives them an excuse and justification to shrink the industry again.

All they ever talk about is a 'sustainable future', but I don't hear of any ways to grow the industry

Pretty soon all its going to 'sustain' is a bunch of public servants talking about this thing that used to be Greyhound Racing!!

Like to ask our US and English mates whether this was/is the way their down turn started...???

How long have you been out of nappies Shane.I cannot believe you would criticise a man the standing of John Newell.
Have you ever watched the extensive training & injury treatment videos produced by John & Peter Yore with actual live footage showing what each injury & trait looks like in track action.A labour of dedication to the sport & participants they have dedicated their working lives to.
You have obviously taken advantage of his expertise in having your dogs checked.
I take my hat off to both these men with great admiration.
