Hi Bob,
No vision on Sky of some of the races (that I know) at Bathurst on Monday arvo. Its a visual game and we love to watch it when we can.

Yes Bob. Pretty ordinary to say the least.

Did I hear right that Maitland is considering installing 300m+ boxes ? That would mean a bend start and more short course races? Anyway ......

I,v been telling them for years,If you want a 350m start just install a second winning post 50m back towards the grand stand.
then the 400m boxes become 350m ,450m boxes become 400m the 565m then become 515m.
But keep both winning post. you could have 6 distances as long as the lure driver don,t get confused.

I really wish this obsession with short course races would be put to bed by GRNSW

Please GRNSW show some balls in this matter

Sandro, as you know, one of the ways to stop it is with a reduction in prize money to minimize the harm. A fair share of races across all distances is appropriate. They'll still race the shorts.

Shannon,

Dual winning posts may solve one problem but create others. They ran for a period at Parklands - as a sop to the people who liked the shorts after the closure of Beenleigh.

In practice they achieved nothing much (a 400m already existed) but were a pain in the neck to Sky viewers and particularly to the race-caller who then had a poor angle to the finish.

In reality, the main suspect would be GBOTA which reacts to pleas from trainers who either have poor dogs or just can't be bothered working their dogs up to the 400s. Note that the same push occurred at Wenty, Bulli and Lismore in recent times, all GBOTA tracks, as is Maitland. GRNSW just stood meekly by.

We know that dog numbers are light on but this suggestion is not a valid answer - just an excuse.

I have yet to hear a single reason put forward to justify racing over shorter and shorter distances. Essentially, GBOTA is re-writing history, degrading the breed and turning racing into a competition for four-legged poker machines.

Who is running the joint?

I shouldve written slow it down as opposed to stop it. Another way is to not build it in the first place.

Gillian,

What is curious is that the NSW GBOTA actually gets a formal mention in the official Strategic Plan, despite the fact that their membership covers only a third of NSW trainers and it has no other authority other than political weight and a lot of dollars to play with. No other track operator has that privilege.

That might be fine except that the remaining two thirds have no ready access to decision makers. The implication is that whatever GBOTA says becomes fact. In my view, its representation on the (Baird-appointed) Reform Panel did not serve the industry well. Some of those recommendations could well have been toned down, thereby reducing long term costs to trainers and owners (24/7 supervision and visits to vets come to mind). Indeed, there are still hangovers from those discussions which have not been resolved formally - eg the puppy tax, which is possibly illegal anyway.

Effectively, GBOTA has become an alternative racing authority but answers only to a modest number of participants.

Note that in Victoria their sister organisation has trouble even getting GRV to read their submissions. (Of course, they don't run any tracks and therefore have little access to funds).

So wheres all yr short course dogs Sandro, what dont breed any and when you do you palm them off to any body that will take them so you can have a whinge about short course races. Get a life, were not all in yr illustrious league, only 500 + dogs, lucky you.

Peter

Don't be foolish.

I race whatever I breed, including short course dogs including one in Qld lately, so change the grass you are smoking because it's playing with your mind. mate.

If you think short course racing is good for the sport then that's your opinion.

In my opinion the prize money for short course races should be down graded and 500 to 700m race should be upgraded

Are they my mates? You know that for a fact?

Funny. I have never met either of them in person.

Where I have ever said there was no place for everyone. That is complete rubbish.

By the way are you even from NSW; because it looks like you are from Victoria

That being the case you obviously have no idea what is going on in our State.

Mate, the only one who seems to like to hear his own voice making judgements about someone you don't know, is you

Now go take a Bex and lie down

Peter we need all types of dogs to race to keep the industry going but surely you must agree that 440 to 700 dogs must be paid higher prize money than the short course dogs some people are racing these short dogs 8 and 9 times a month that can not be good for any dog surely. They should bring in a rule no more than 6 starts per month over any distance and pay more for longer dogs and then you would get a good stream of dogs racing on all distances.
