Hi Cyril, Firstly I feel your pain with your chances of a Group 3 final being taken away from you, my mate had his local bitch in the final too (obviously the travel for you is different but the chance to race in a Group final is huge for anyone).
As for the lure, I'll be honest I'm unsure we can ever guarantee. But I would like to think there's lots of contingency plans to try ensure this never occurs again.
I think the club and myself are very proactive this year with trying too present the best Townsville Cup yet to the greyhound world - through a strong sponsorship drive and encouraging southern trainers to make the trip up. As for covering costs I don't think this has been discussed as if we were to cover some trainers costs on the trip up, across etc. where do we stop. Its just not practical. But I'm not the right person to be ruling this out.
This all being said I am highly confident that the 2017 Townsville Cup will be the best one yet and really highlight how strong the greyhound industry is in North Queensland.

James, appreciate your comments & yes at the time could not understand how a Group race could be abandoned by the board. Best of luck this year & if we can regain form after being on seasons we may again be there this year with one of ours.

Townsville Cup is 29 days away with the heats in 3 weeks. A few people have asked about staying near the track or trainers available to take dogs for the Cup heats.
If you go over to our Facebook page we have plenty on there about the available van parks who'll carter for dogs. Plus there's a few trainers with a couple of kennel spaces still. If you message me on this I will pass you their details as per request.

THE RETURN of the 380m track record holder and local champion ROCKETS MAGIC, 2016 Townsville Cup winner and 5x Group Finalist ZABDON FERRARI and QUEENSLAND NATIONALS Finalist GUNNADOO REV all headline Tuesday nights Cup Heats at the Townsville Showgrounds.
The first heat is 8:38pm with the top two runners from the four heats qualifying for the final on September 5!

Good to see a 643 on the program, magic distance that one, had a handy 600 dog up there years ago, would like to see a front running stayer like Big Easy Red have a crack at that record. Best wishes to the club for a great night of racing.
