The New South Wales Opposition says the State Government awarded major construction contracts to two brothers despite claims another company the men were involved in had left a trail of debt behind it.

During a fiery Question Time, NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley asked Mike Baird about brothers Paul and Chris Burton.

They were directors of Keystone, which went into liquidation in July last year.

The men remain directors of Burton Contractors.

"Will you confirm that the Government has awarded $150 million worth of road contracts to Burton Contractors whose directors Paul and Chris Burton were also directors of Keystone, which went into liquidation and left a string of contractors unpaid?" Mr Foley asked.

Premier Mike Baird said he did not have information on those contracts at hand, but the Opposition said Burton had won tenders for road projects at Werrington and Richmond in Sydney's west.

Mr Foley then asked Mr Baird whether the brothers were Liberal Party donors who attended a dinner with him.

"I have no idea of a dinner I may have been at that they might have been at, but look, if you are making an allegation, what is it?" Mr Baird said.

Mr Foley then revealed that two of the subcontractors, who say they are owed $200,000, were sitting in the parliamentary gallery listening to the heated exchange.

"Premier, what will you do to ensure that unpaid contractors like Laurie and Luke Refalo who are in the public gallery today can receive from Paul and Chris Burton some of the monies they are owed?" Mr Foley asked.

Mr Baird hit back, accusing Labor of staging a publicity stunt.

"The gentlemen are in a difficult position and I sympathise with that - it's never easy to be in that sort of position," the Premier said.

"But let's look at what the Opposition has done. Rather than say 'we have a challenge in terms of some subcontractors', you decide to create a stunt.

"If you were genuinely concerned about these people you could have picked up the phone or knocked on our door and said 'we have a problem'."

I let you know on the 11/7/2016.

Tracie, not sure what response your looking for but nontabs have shutdown indefinitely.

I had two maidens that were going to run at Temora this week. May as well start looking for retirement homes for them now. Will be very sad if this is not rectified quickly.

Interim CEO To Be Replaced By Administrator

.

Further to the Governments decision to shut down the industry in NSW following the Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry, and subject to consideration by the NSW Parliament, the interim CEO Mr Paul Newson will be replaced by an Administrator of Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW).

GRNSW Chief Executive Paul Newson said in the next few weeks the Government will appoint an administrator to manage the shutdown of the greyhound racing industry in NSW.

I was asked to take on the role of interim Chief Executive in February 2015 following the disturbing and deeply troubling revelations by Four Corners and animal rights groups of serious misconduct being undertaken by members of the industry. Those cruel and sickening images of live baiting will not be easily forgotten and highlighted a serious failing by previous management in their oversight and supervision of the industry. The subsequent finding by the Special Commission of Inquiry that far too many healthy greyhounds die each year to sustain the racing industry is equally disturbing, Mr Newson said.

Its frustrating to see the support that has emerged to defend the industry since the governments announcement, when we often had to deal with the outright denial of the significant animal welfare issues in the industry. On many occasions proposed reforms were dismissed and resisted by industry participants and while some participants courageously championed reform, overall there was little appetite to demonstrate the significant change was in place before the inquiry had made its recommendation to government.

glad he's gone!!

This administrater will be around for a very LONG time IF parliament doesn't overturn this Greens and Animals Australia agenda, because an injunction until all legal avenues have been exhausted could take until the next election.

Goulburn is TAB C so it won't be affected in the interim because their decision has no credibility. The attacks have begun.

I can not believe people still continue to squabble over this track or that track or non Tab or country racing or city racing etc in case you haven't noticed it is all tracks and all greyhound related industry that is about to be shut down? And they are not going to take their time about doing this, we will be lucky to be still racing anywhere in nsw by Christmas it's the "industry" that has 12 months to be wound up, if we actually survive this attack there are 79 other recommendations that will be implemented and some and we WILL BE TOLD where and how we can race simple as that, surely it's time self interest and personal revenge is put aside for just a moment as we are barely clinging to survival.

Allen,
The attack has begun on non-TAB country tracks by claiming they're unsafe. Yes, people shouldn't be talking about one single track. You being part of a participants group what action is being taken to stop the garbage about the 13 or so country tracks ? You can be specific or non-specific as much as you like.

Tab or Non Tab THIS FIGHT should be for the industry as A WHOLE, A track is a track no matter what its name or where it is situated The same goes for who leads this fight against this GOVERNMENT,it all comes down to one thing, all fight as one for the Greyhound INDUSTRY

I'm not suggesting otherwise. Of course it is. They've struck two blows - the big one n the unsafe tracks one. We need to look at both because the dismantling has started now, not in 12 months. Do you know anything now that you are back ?

is the ban on greyhound actually legal. the entire matter looks to be restrospective of the industry where by changes could be needed but not sanctioned within reasonable time frames of change.whileit is acknowledged changes are required how can we be penalised when notime to follow suggested reforms has been given.this is just not unfair but unjust .can webe just shut down in a retrospective manner based on justice McHugh's report.

That's right John. They can't put a 'blanket over it' and smother the industry and claim its past issues when we have been reforming for the past 18 months. The same with non-TAB tracks being closed until a safety audit is conducted. An injunction to prevent them doing the latter should occur and expose them in the interim.
