the whole lot of them are HYPOCRITES.

it's discrimination.

there must be so much of the bulldust that the greyhounds are copping that could be fought and won in court.

it is the only industry involving animals that is getting shafted.

Ever heard the esteemed Mr. Zammit talking on late night radio? Bagging people between the " hic, hic, " Abbot & Lou" radio show highlights?

Forget any negatives, this is the best bit of POSITIVE news and publicity the sport has had for a long time and will get a lot of people talking about the greyhounds in a good light, rather than bad.

Agree Ray, this is huge news! This will bring new people to the greyhounds and is just what is needed to kick forward. Big prizemoney races draw the most attention and will bring the people back to the industry

There is a lot of problems with this million dollars chase idea.

1. Are only nsw trained dogs eligible or do we just write a cheque to grv now?
2. If you win a million dollar race chances are you are going to be a breeder not a rehomer.
3. If you win prizemoney they can't make you give it back 6-24 months later.
4. This benefits one person a year.

Why don't they just put the million straight into rehoming or prizemoney or even bringing in bloodtesting (being the first state proves the same point and removes a lot of whispers). That way all participants doing the right thing benefit.

The race is open to all greyhounds in all states.

The other race for greyhounds over 45 months of age is open to only NSW greyhounds...the prize money is $100k which will keep a few average dogs racing a little longer I bet.

There may be some negatives but for god sake fellas, look on the bright side. This race will give the dogs similar publicity to the thoroughbreds with EVEREST...and, all of those other things mentioned are great suggestions with many benefits, but after all the bashing we have copped over the past couple of years, money cant buy this FREE PUBLICITY and at at a time when we are looking down both barrels of defeat.

Get onboard and stop the negatives and what ifs...also, the fact that that crucifier TOOLE is claiming responsibility and applause for this decision should be accepted for what it is, lets face it, he is public enemy No1 but having him onside for once is a position that he can hardly back out of...unless of course the negative backlash causes him to rethink his decision.

Let him have his moment in the sun, because as sure night follows day, his days in office are already numbered.

Mick:
so the trainers of those dogs were advised prior to the announcement?
or is it just a "possible " make up?

So is the GAP placement or retirement as a pet allowed to take place after another two years of racing and a further 5 year stud career?

Totally agree, Ray.

There should be celebrations all around Australia!
Can't think of a better way to make a statement that Greyhounds are moving on...
It is a MASSIVE announcement and you have to give credit when it's due...MAJOR step forward in the right direction.
It will ignite fresh interest in ownership, training, and the general public's interest.

Love the idea of the Masters race too.

Now all that needs to happen is the other states to climb on board with this idea and get their own major upgraded races going and all of a sudden, the sun begins to shine again.

Just waiting for QLD to announce a 2 MILLION DOLLAR SERIES! Lol.

Who would have thought, with all the negativity that has happened over the last 3 years, we would now be talking about a 1 MILLION DOLLAR dog race?

If this doesn't get the saliva going, nothing will.

To all the people who kept on breeding through all the negativity, you might just win yourself a cool Mil in the next year or so...GOOD LUCK.

This is a fantastic announcement for the industry.

While I was hoping to hear an adjustment to the inter-code agreement, which was signed off while the dinosaurs were still roaming the earth, this is the next best thing & we should be ALL embracing it.

Yes questions still need to be asked & answered..& corners need to be smoothed out, but in the meantime stop the whining & start preparing those champs.
