The mention of Toy Boy prompted cousin Nigel to relive one of his most favourite memories as the owner of Shadow Lane:

I'll never forget the night toy boy (track record holder) and pets echo (btn shhd Irish derby final) were having a great duel up the home straight in Dunmore until shadow lane came from out of the clouds and passed them both to win her heat of the sp Graham

Wouldn't be the same the 700yds was unique at Dunmore bein just 4 bends although way none of the main bookies in the north ie grahams, toals,Ladbrokes, paddy powers sponsor any greyhound competition,s at Drumbo which is shame

The 4 bend 700 was completely unique to Dunmore. I doubt if there's another track in Ireland that could accommodate it.

Did toals not sponsor the northern Irish Derby for a few years with decent prize money on offer.

Yes and Toals Bookmakers sponsored the Produce stakes in the old ballyskeagh for a few years

Would be asset for track to run northern derby/oaks or as Ryan said a northern produce stakes restricted to dogs/bitches bred in north as there is still plenty of breeders in north would be great incentive of maybe 500 to breeder of the winner ever little bit helps

The lack of sponsorship from local betting firms is a disgrace. They get the product from England without paying the voluntary 0.6% levy in which the main betting partners in England pay for a start, I'm not saying they shud pay this as we would not be eligible for the money anyway. But perhaps if the main betting firms in Northern Ireland wer approached and asked on what they contribute to greyhounds we could see a future in which we get some sort of backing. Toals sponsored the Derby for a couple of years and that's all good and well but I haven't seen one other firm sponsor a stake in drumbo in the past few years

I agree with Jordan 100% maybe that could be talked about in 2 mrw nites meeting the grahams I'm sure could be approached by members of the committee as well as the other leading firms as saying goes if u don't ask u don't get

Hi Desmond, I remember the name Glosha Jill. I remember a brindle bitch. I remember racing at Lifford once but my memory fails me on the rest. Must ask dad when I see him,

I have just stumbled onto this old article on Dunmore and it brought back many memories of the great nights racing there from the late 1960s until its closure in the late 1990s.'

In my humble opinion, Newdown Heather was the fastest greyhound that I saw racing there .

I have dug out the Racecard for the 15th August 1987 at Dundalk , Carrolls 525 International. The semi finals of the Bernard Barry Nursery Championship 1987 were the 1st and 2nd races that night. The 1st Semi Final was won by Dalgety, 2nd Rooskey Ceili, 3rd Mr. Snow , winning time 29.66. The 2nd Semi Final was won by Fore Top, 2nd My Story , I owned My Story , I dont have the 3rd wrote down on racecard but Thomas says it was Mayo Madness which was an April 1986 whelp. The break down of prize money for the Final was Winner 3,000 and Trophy, 2nd 1,000, 3rd 450, the card does not show what unplaced finalist got but from memory it was 150 . Foretop won the final the following week . Sadly for me My Story knocked up a toe in a gallop during that week and had to be withdrawn from the Final.

For information the runners in the Carrolls 525 International were , Skiful Champ, Tapwatcher, Westmead Gold, Yellow Bud, Balalika, Rapid Mover . Winner 6,500, 2nd 1,300, 3rd 800, unplaced runners 500.

I remember an awful lot of the Sean Graham 700 winners in years gone by,it was my favourite competition over the years.
I came close to winning it in 1982 with an unbeaten finalist,Smiling Again, but it was not to be in the final.
A wonderful dog called Westpark Quail was easily the best dog that I ever saw over the Dunmore 700,he was virtually unbeatable.
