Tonight at Wentworth Park, the greyhound BIG DADDY BEE won the Group 1 NSW Nat Derby Fnl, and what a win it was paying over $9 for the win.

The trainer Ray Smith has prepared this newly crowned champion perfectly by winning the Heat & Final of the NSW Nat Derby PRELUDE at Wenty, earlier last month.

Although those winning times were nothing to write home about, it was the way BDB got to the line that caught my eye (among over things which I'll elude to shortly), winning the heat by almost 10 lengths. Box 3 ---> EXTERNAL LINK
In the heats last week, BDB finished 2nd to Nangar Rock, who ran the fastest of the Derby heats, stopping the clock at a sizzling 29.88. In the process, BDB dropped his PB to 30.06, and when he draw box 1 with a wide runner on his outside, I knew he would run a mighty race in the final.

Now where the story gets a little bit more personal on my behave....well I bred his dam WINNING CHARM, out of my amazing brood-bitch HEARTS WAR (god bless her soul). I sold this bitch at 4 months to the boys who raced & then mated her to KINLOCH BRAE. Nice choice fellows & all spoils to you...75 thousand of them.

Congratulation from a very proud greyhound die-hard.

Regards Steve ;-)

Good one Steve, no surprise to me that your breed keeps on keeping on and producing the goods...I have had the pleasure of staying at your property on my travels on a couple of occasions and the way you rear and treat your dogs is 2nd to none.
Attention to detail and love and care is an ingredient of success...congratulations.

Yes thanks Ray & AJ.

The boys that bred this Derby winner will still be celebrating I'd image.

Have another double fellows....It's Sunday.

Great result Stevo. ;-)

There would be no better feeling than a Group 1 winner from a damline you have nurtured over years

I only whelped the dam [Winning Charm (Just The Best x Hearts War)] of the Derby winner. The new owner choose & whelped the next generation & good on 'em.
But I do have a Just The Best x El Foolin (El Galo x Hearts War) dog at home which I've been wrapping to those that no me. He's not for sale.
But if you have a Kinloch Brae bitch at home, I maybe able to provide you with some Frozen for a small fee...in a couple of years.

Hey Steve, congrats.. on the continued success of your freakish damilne.
Winning Charm (silk mac) has done me proud, but i always had faith in the little girl, after all she is a 3/4 sister to the great Elite State.
It was a long term plan for Jason(owner) to buy a pup with his main goal to breed his own chasers and with impeccable bloodlines, he was excited to buy her as a pup. Countless hours went into choosing the perfect sire for her and mating her to Kinloch Brae was clearly the best option for SilK Mac.
What a wonderful job Ray & Maree Smith did raring Big Daddy Bee and for them to win their 1st Group 1 as trainers was thoroughly deserved. They are true greyhound people.
Silk Mac was born to be a broodbitch and throws her wonderful temperament into her pups and with a Group 1 Derby winner from her 1st litter, she has the potential to be a great broodbitch and has justified the faith shown in her from day one.
Silk Mac take a bow........................luv her...

I knew I'd flush you out eventually David lol.

Well done mate. Silk Mac always showed she had more than just a pedigree on the race-track too, but retiring her early to the breeding barn has now proven to be gold move.

I did the same with her younger 1/2 sister "El Fooling" and so did the owners of her full sister "Aprils Legacy....and although they both haven't produced that big one yet, plenty of Group finals have been made & city wins.

David if you go to Hearts Wars pedigree and wait for the 3rd picture to turn over, that picture contains little Silk Mac with mum having a picnic lol. I knew there was a reason why I choose that picture ---> CLICK HERE
Well done fellas. Send me an email when you decide on Silk Mac's next litter.

In the meantime, I'll keep cheering.

Cheers Steve.

I found this story in the GREYHOUND RECORDER written by Jeff Collerson, on the 19 Jan 2017 about BIG DADDY BEE then he won a couple at Wpk early last month. His trainer was spot on.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UNTIL recently Big Daddy Bee has promised us the world but only delivered an atlas, was the quip from trainer Ray Jack Smith after the dog scored his second successive Wentworth Park win yesterday week.

After being a distant third on the back straight, Big Daddy Bee swept past pacemakers Agent Kade and Knock Wave in the straight to win by three lengths.

He stopped the clock in his 520m fourth and fifth grade success at 30.51sec, after recording a similar come from behind victory at WP on January 4 in 30.60sec.

Big Daddy Bee is by Kinloch Brae and his career is reminding me a lot of my good dog Brad Hill Billys, who is also by that sire, Smith said.

When I first started training Brad Hill Billy he was trialling the place down but it took him a while to really hit his straps on race night.

It is a bit the same with Big Daddy Bee, although Im not suggesting for a moment he is going to be as good as Brad Hill Billy.

Big Daddy Bee flopped at his first two WP starts but the two-year-old now looks set for a bright future for owner Jason Bateup.

His WP victory yesterday week took his tally to five wins and four placings from 15 starts with a stellar career as a middle distance performer beckoning.

I read that story at the time Steve, but Wentworth Park is a leader biased track, and its very hard for young dogs that are not fast early to take to it straight away, esp. when they run around 5.60 or slower to the winning post and are midfield early and in traffic. But given the dogs ability to rail hard into the 1st corner and with Rays conditioning, the dog could only improve with each run on the track and with a 11.60/11.70 run home for a young dog at 2 years of age, give him a rails draw and he might even knock off a Derby LOL... looking forward to seeing what he can do once he is a seasoned galloper.

Gallant run by BDB, drew his box and used it as best he could, just 3/4 of them, gave us a huge sight, another podium for BDB.
